It's been rumored for a while now, but it's now official: BioShock is becoming a movie. The better news is that Sweeney Todd writer John Logan and Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski have signed onto the film.

Originally reported in Variety, Take-Two has confirmed that Universal has signed up the film rights to BioShock. Gore Verbinski, director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy and DICE keynoter, has agreed to direct and produce the film. John Logan, whose credits include The Last Samurai, The Aviator and Sweeney Todd, will pen the film's script.
Take-Two Interactive will receive an advance worth millions against gross points for the film. According to the company's executive chairman Strauss Zelnick, this was done to make sure that the BioShock film won't fall into the development hell that the Halo film did. "The reason I structured it the way I did is to make sure it gets made," emphasized Zelnick.
