UK, April 23, 2008 - Leading UK supermarket Asda has disclosed surprising figures pertaining to the forthcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, revealing that the PlayStation 3 version is outselling the Xbox 360 version to the tune of three to one.

Speaking to trade paper MCV, Asda's head of games Duncan Cross said, "Both titles have generated great interest on the Asda website, with strong pre-orders, and the PS3 version is selling three times that of 360, which is surprising and not in line with what we'd expect."

While it's no news that the game is going to sell – with recent reports suggesting it could make $400 million in its first week alone – it'll come as a surprise that the PlayStation 3 is trumping the Xbox 360 to such an extent. Debbie O'Neill of UK electronic retailer Comet stated that "We have great expectations and believe it is going to be a massive hardware driver – especially on PS3."

UK, April 16, 2008 - With hype levels currently ascending to the stratosphere, it's safe to assume that the release of Grand Theft Auto IV on April 29 will be one of the biggest game launches to date, and recent reports are outlining just how big it will be, with it predicted to rake in $400 million in its first week alone.

As disclosed by Variety, sources close to Take Two are led to believe the game is on course to trump Halo 3, which raked in $300 million in its first week. Furthermore, the sources reveal that the game is set so shift some 6 million units, again eclipsing Halo 3 which sold 5 million units. Helping Grand Theft Auto to these phenomenal figures will be the fact it is hitting both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, as opposed to the 360 exclusive Halo 3.

However, GameStop CEO Bob McKenzie told the magazine that Rockstar's crime saga is tracking "slightly behind" Halo 3's pre-release numbers.

Sales of Grand Theft Auto IV will be closely watched by not only Take-Two shareholders but also by Electronic Arts, which recently announced its intention to buy the company, which also owns the 2K Games and 2K Sports labels.

Take-Two is holding its annual meeting on Thursday, during which executives and shareholders will discuss EA's $2 billion offer, a 64 percent premium over Take-Two's stock price at the time.

In a news release today, Take-Two said the deadline for stockholders to submit proposals for new business (such as, for example, an agreement to accept EA's offer) expired last night with no takers.

You gotta figure that most people still think of GTA as a Sony exclusive title, or that they have a strong built in advantage from Sony fanpeeps.

I bet a lot of kiddies, casual gamers, etc. don't even realize that it's on x360 this time around.
