1.6L vs. 2.3L

last night after work me and my co-worker decided to race on tha interstate. now i usually dont condone racing at all and it has been a LONG time since i raced on tha street but i had a long day at work. anyways i have a 5spd '97 civic dx with I/H/E and my co-worker has a stock '04 Mazda3 auto. so we're on tha entrance ramp goin onto tha interstate and i floor it and he hears tha sound of my car so he floors it too. i was thinkin that his 2.3L would easily catch up to my car but actually i was in tha lead for quite awhile. that is until we hit about 110 and he started to get a slowly pass my car. so i was like, "damnit" lol but i was pretty proud of myself for doing that well against a 04 2.3L Mazda.

good job. ur gonna get him on the low end...hes auto and a heavier car....also sohc suck at top end...get too 100 quick but after that they are garbage. mazda 3 arent that fast....probly about 130 or 140hp...if it was a mazdaspeed 3 that woulda been a different story

but good job...way to rep the single cam!

u shoulda laughed at him being that he losed to one of hondas slowest models...lol

but yea Mazdaspd, i wounldnt've even tried. thas like an F-18 dogfighting a P-51 Mustang lol

His car may be 2.3L, but it also weighs 2900lbs, is an auto, and is stock.

Yours is 2300lbs, a manual, and is modified.

I don't see why you're so surprised. His car is an econobox that runs 0-60 in the 9s.

They're both slow, even with i/h/e on the dx. Power to weight is about even on them. The manual tranny is what did it, but at 110 mph a civic dx is in 4th gear, and the rpms are too low to make power and not moving up fast enough to accelerate quickly anymore. Gears 1-3 on a dx will get you to 100, if someone is hanging around after that, it's pretty much over once you shift to 4th.

I think it's more about aero drag. Above freeway speeds, aero drag starts to become more of the equation than weight... therefore the Civic's power/aero ratio (if there was a way to calculate it) becomes worse and worse as speeds increase. That's part of why Bentley GTs that run 13 flat in the 1/4 can go 200mph while Elises that run the same 1/4 struggle to hit 150. When the aero drag increases exponentially with higher speed, the Elise still has 190hp while the Bentley has 550hp against the same air resistance; the Elise's low weight doesn't save it anymore at that speed.

on a sohc...vtec doesnt really matter or make a big difference. with ur mods u would keep up with a stock sohc vtec very well. and since ur a dx ur about 100 pounds lighter.

my beater has a sohc non vtec...with i/h/e and its auto and i was right there with stock sohc vtec 5spds.

Good job man. Its funny how everyone says "I dont condone street racing" when they post up about how they streetraced lol. Lets be real..I race on the street all the time but when I feel its safe..eryone is gonna say its never safe and call me an asshole..OH WELL Not going to stop me. I try to do most of it at the track but theres times out on the highway when its fun to mess around. If theres no traffic and especially no cops I'm on. As long as i dont kill anyone but myself I'm straight.
