WRC - '06 Cars Just as Quick
London, UK – 8/17/2005
Next season’s banning of active differentials and water injection systems in World Rally Cars may be effective to cut costs, not speed, Subaru boss David Lapworth admitted.
“These new rules were never about slowing the cars down,” he told Motorsport News. “It was to rationalize costs and logistics. We can achieve most things with a passive differential.”
Indeed they can, as Mitsubishi proved earlier this season, when it was competitive using a passive system.
Norway Bids for WRC Slot
Rally Norway is the latest addition to a long line of events bidding to enter the WRC schedule, which already is at an all-time high of 16 events.
The Scandinavian country’s trump card against other contenders such as Portugal, Jordan and the Czech Republic is the fact that it would mean a second snow rally to partner Sweden in the world championship calendar, thus helping to justify the extra development costs of “snow cars” and their special tires and other parts.
"There are other countries also bidding for new WRC rounds but none of them is a winter rally,” said Rally Norway managing director Jim Carlsen. “In addition to providing beautiful winter roads, Rally Norway will meet the need of all the manufacturer teams to reduce spending. Together with the Swedish Rally we can offer as close as it gets to two rallies for the cost of one."
Norway hopes to be observed by the FIA in February 2006, in to order gain full approval for inclusion on the WRC calendar by ‘07.
