No they dont make them anymore. www.servicehonda.com used to make some cool bikes where they would take the CR250 frame and put the 2-stroke 500 motor in the 250 frame. I never rode one but im guessing it was pretty wicked.

EDIT: service honda still makes it. gdamn that thing looks like fun.

this is kinda old but in case you still need the answer. the first version was a 450 in the early 80's. not sure when they changed over to the 500 but it ran until the late 90's. possibly 2000.

This is an old thread, but man CR 500's are SOOOOOOO fucking fast.
They debuted in 1984. There was a CR 450 (as mentioned above) in 81, then a CR 480 in 82 and 83. 85 and 86 500's are oddballs, stay away from them.
From 1987 till about 2001 they are *basically* the same desing. The older ones are kind of hard to start.
And the CR500AF would be pretty cool, AF= aluminum frame. :clap

the crf's are bad ass. it depends what your plans are for it, but i would much rather have it over the 500. they are al hard to start, not just the older ones, and they had some big time reliablity issues. i've heard good things about the service honda but i've never ridden one to confirm it.

as far as reliability on the 500's it really doesnt mattet to me the 500 would just be a play bike for big hits , i wouldnt want to take a 500 to a track no point really beings how u rarely use 5th gear or even top of 4th around here.........

i would have agreed with you on the 4 stroke thing up until riding one. the low end power is amazing. if you're riding tracks it helps sooo much. also the extra power of the 500 helps in the same situations, get off on timing a little bit and just hammer it to get it back

i rode a yzf250 and i was very unimpressed with it, now maybe i might like a 450 just cause im used to 250's

My friend has an Cr500, we were going to put new rings the other day, upon removal of the cylinder I discovered that it had been ported and polished, measured the bore and found out it is bored .60 over.
Holy shit no wonder that fucker is so fast lol.
