is this a good deal?

ok friend from work...has a nice motorcycle. he selling it cuz he wants to get a 750 or a 1000. im thinkin of buyin it. it will be my first bike cuz im just gettin into them.

ok its a 2001 Suziki Katona 600. has 14k miles. has Hids. aftermarket exhaust. has those trick pegs on the side..incase u drop it i guess idk. has smoked signals. its a nice blue. almost simliar to my 07 si blue. overall its a clean nice lookin bike...with only 3 scratchs...it was droped...cuz previous owner was into tricks...but no hard damage...just those 3 minor scratchs. runs good and sounds nice. and has a new back tire. should i go for it? he is asking $3,000.

are they good bikes to start out with? im not looking for anything crazy. i wont be doing tricks like wheelies or anything and im not lookin to race it or speed...i just wanna cruise and i heard the 600 is perfect for that. let me know what you think?

Don't do it!! Katana sucks! its a heavy POS, the price seems to be okay, could be better though. If you are just looking to cruise and willing to spend 3K why not buy a new Ninja 250? Its way more reliable than Kan-o-Tuna, specially a used one. If you want more power get a Ninja 500.

Also look into Hyosung, they aren't as popular but make great bikes, specially for beginners plus they look real nice compared to most entry level bikes. It's already been dubbed "the ninja killer" and got great reviews so far. With 250 Starting at 3600 and 650 around 5800, you can't go wrong with this bike's performance, style & rarity, for now atleast.

you know a company has made it when you got race versions of thier basic bike.

OH yea, forgot to mention, if you must buy your buddy's bike, atleast have a shop (one he doesn't always go to) do an pre-sale inspection. Most bike shops will do it for free but some charge anywhere from 20 to 50 bucks but its all worth it. You don't want to buy a bike with compression problems, bent frame, off balance tire/wheel/forks/clamps etc.
