You could get a pretty good bike for $5000. I started riding a 1993 Yamah fzr 600. I paid $3500 and that was a good bike. I would start with a f3 maybe an f4 for honda, an old fzr is pretty good also. I would recomened going with a use bike for sure especialy since it is your first bike. Have you ever ridden before. If not I would suggest a motorcycle saftey class. Check out cycle trader or the paper you should find a good bike. Take someone who can ride with you so they can ride the bike and make sure it is o k.

Honda CBR F2 or F3, suzuki katana, kawasaki zx6... any of those like 90-96ish years would be a nice started bike that has a mix of looks/speed/learner-friendlyness... i'd say 5,000$ is plenty of money, but dont spend that all on the bike, i'd say set aside 3,000$ for the bike and look at bikes that are 3,500$ and under considering room to haggle on the price... then spend the rest on some good gear, insurance, and repairs/maintance... also dont be set on a bike thats showroom looking, i mean get a quality bike but no matter what it is goin to end up on its side one way or another and the nicer it was to begin with the more upset your goin to be, just concentrate mostly on making sure it is mechanically sound

I got quoted about a year ago on a brand new Suzuki GSXR-600 for 5000 grand, thats the bike I want, I read a compare against the honda, and the yamaha of the same class and the GSXR is considered the best one. It's also the fastest 600CC bike made, just as a side note.

A brand new gixxer for $5000, i would think something would be wrong. The dealers sell them for more like $7-8000. The gixxer is faster on paper. I have raced a few gixxers and beaten them. When you are a 600 it all comes down to the rider.

yea 5000 for a brand new gixxer isn't right... i called one dealer and found a "killer deal" on a "gsx-r", 4,000$ for a 2001 with only 400 miles, go to the dealer only to find out its really a katana GSX, apparently he accidentally put an R in the end of the name, they'll say anything to get you to come in and buy

He deals with most manufactures. I have to get the name from my man.. What color is your f3 ,, i might have seen you.. I had a arian color one in 99... Hey my tl1000r is for sale as of now.. I owe 4800$ on it.. Anything around that number its yours.. Has the dual yoshi limit purple cans, yoshi remap 5+ low 10+ mid 5+ wot. It needs a filter and maybe a chain sprocket set.. 17,900 on it.. Real strong bike.. Wouldnt recommend for a start , off the line she will stand up,, or a 30 roll in second, turn the gas and she lift off tell govern.. Straight beast... She blow fire at night out both pipes from the rich fuel map down center. on 95 the torque has me on the asses of bussas, and widow makers(gsxr1000)..
