miles out of an engine

so i had a 2001 R1. had is the key word, only liability insurance and now im screwed. the bike is garbage and is already gone... so my question is, all i really have money for right now is a used cbr 600 f4 or RR. they are both very good bikes and decently fast and i have had the liberty of riding both bikes and like them, but all of the ones that are under $4000 have like 17,000 miles on them and i dont know if they will last???? any advice would be great,
thanks

Have it checked out by a mechanic to see if there is anything wrong with it before you buy

I just had my 98 f3 dynoed the other day and it still makes (at 18,000 miles), 92.4 hp, up from 89 brand new stock. I've got a pipe and jet kit and filter, which sounds about right.

17,000 miles is nothing on a bike...that's like 2 years worth of riding for me. It's the maintenance that you need to be worried about. Properly maintained bike will last 10's of thousands of miles.

I ride about 10,000-12,000 miles a year my current GSX-R 750 has 14,000 on it and runs stronger than it did with 500 miles. Keep up on maintenance and you will probably total the bike before the motor dies

Just over 14,000 Miles on my 05 Yamaha R6. Still runs so good I can't believe it. And it sees only weekends but me and my friends go out and it sees that 10,000 to Redline rev range VERY frequently and for sustanined times.
