Good Mountain Bike to Purchase?

I am 6'2-6'3" 200-205lbs. I used to mtn bike a lot. I owned a Trek 350 or something and I really bent the frame up...and the wheels when I jumped it like 4 feet high....and I only weighed 170lbs back then. I am looking for a mtn bike that can take some abuse.....and also one that can wheelie relatively easy...and do stoppies.....a couple of my favorite tricks that I do when I get bored. I haven't been in the mtn bike scene for over 5 yrs...and would like to purchase a new bike.....Whats good???

My budget is flexible.....but I would ideally like to spend in the 500-600 dollar range.

Even though groupos have gotten much better, I think you'll still be looking a bike with a mix of lx/xt parts and most likely a lower level front fork.

Just a thought, but you might look w/ a purpose to get the best frame you can get for the price w/ the intention of upgrading your parts as you go along.

Trek should have bikes in your $ range. Or maybe one of their other brands like Gary Fisher, etc.

Specialized has always impressed me w/ their value, but I'm kinda wary of Cannondale even though I have nothing concrete to back up my apprehensions. (Other then not being a twist shift fan. )

I am also not a twist shift fan....and from what I remember...the shock is on the neck of the mtn bike for cannondales....never liked that.

I am not obsessed with suspension...but more focused on overall strength of the bike. I used to BMX a lot back in the day (14-15 yrs old in the pic)....below is a pic of me bunny hopping when I got bored

I need something that I won't bend the frame or fork.....last bike I tore the hell out of...and just threw it away. The shifter quality isn't all that important since I have strong legs...and don't shift going uphill. In fact....I broke 5-6 chains trying to crank the hell out of the bike. I bent the crank down...and had problems with the pedal/crank staying on the bike....the nut would always loosen up and fall off. I don't treat the bikes super well...although I try my best to absorb the shock with my legs.

if it shows a red X..hit refresh.

the Norco's usually run $800 and up. Definitely check out Specialized's website, judging your weight and size here's your best bet:
this one is $900 and really indestructible
My bro has this one in a 2004 model Really well spec'd out.

My friend has a Trek hardtail that is constructed the same way as the Lotus Elise's aluminium structure - glued together. It hasn't broken yet.

Crap. I linked you to the VPS bikes. here are the Shore Hardtails:
http://www.norco.com/bikes/2004bikes/shorehardtail.htm

The Shore Sasquatch costs CAD$1350, which directly works out to USD$1070.24 using todays exchange rate of 1 Canadian Dollar = 0.79277 US Dollar.

Anyone know if the Kona Stuff is a decent bike? (USD$949 @ www.konaworld.com )
