I went on Friday to help support my friends playing in Div. 1 (LA Hitmen) and also meet up with some old industry friends, hang out, etc.
I got there in the afternoon since the Hitmen were playing the afternoon schedule of games. This is around 4pm PST. The tradeshow area was pretty mellow w/ it still not being the weekend.
Since I had time to look around I checked out D1 Torment playing the JT Field, and some other divisional team playing on the Eclipse field.
Finally what was supposed to be a 4:58 game, got going at around 6pm.
LA Hitmen getting ready to play vs. NURV on the Eclipse Field. The game came down to an exciting 2-on-1 w/ Sonny Lopez (JT, Lucky Paintball, etc.) taking out both NURV players.
The Spyder Field didn't have the traditional snake and doritio sides. Instead it had a diamond shaped laydown area w/ a temple in the center. It was lovingly dubbed "the pond".
LA Hitmen playing agaisnt the Stoned Assassins who have moved down in ranks to play in D1 this season. LA Hitmen won in the battle of teams w/ skulls as their main logos/
Chris Tregarthen playing the laydowns.
Derrick Obatake in "The Pond".
What's amazing is that both Derrick and Chirs play w/ Sniper (pump guns) even though they're snake and front/insert players. The LA Hitmen are a hybrid team even in open class tourneys.
LA Hitmen getting ready for the start vs. Underground Army on the JT Field.
'Drew Chan at the center standup wedge keeping the snake and back left temple players pinned down.
A little after 7pm PST, looking north towards the HB pier. Another day in paradise winding down and the promoters still hadn't turned on the lights for eveing play.
Since SD Aftermath is battling it out in SemiPro, Dynasty Entourage has moved up into the D1 ranks to represent for the Boys in Blue. Here they are after they played a very disciplined and methodical game vs. a very strong Rock-It Kids team.
Probably one of the most famous avid paintballers that non-ballers might know. B-real from the rap group Cypress Hill. He plays w/ a semi so no "hand on the pump" for him LOL! About 30 seconds before he got goggled.
Aftet 8:15pm or so. The pros teams were walking the stadium NPPL field prepping for the Saturday games. Even if the last game was scheduled for 7:22pm, divisional games were still bveing played on the other fields.
My buddies went 4-0 on Friday and 4-0 again today on Saturday and are heading in the Sundays Quarters in 1st place in D1! Woot!
BLAST won the pro division, so if he was on the field, much props to him.
Bob Long is kinda a gruff dOOd. I remember his original teams from WAY back. But I gotta give props to peeps like Bob, Ron Killbourne, D. Obatake, and others who've been tourney balling at a high level since the 80's.
