the WORKOUT/GENERAL HEALTH thread
This thread is for anyone looking for help, tips, whatever on working out, dieting, certain exercizes, strategies, etc. on this kind of stuff.
The thing is I've seen in this area alot of small threads about what workouts should i do, what should i eat, how should i lift, whats the best way to lose weight, etc. and the honest truth is that all this stuff goes hand in hand. You cant just do one. So basically my idea was to keep all that kind of GENERAL HEALTH stuff in one thread. Moderators, do with this as you wish.
Another reason for me to start this thread is that I was wondering how can I contribute to the site? I'm still by all means a n00b when it comes to cars and such. But thats why I'm here, to learn. However, since I am using the site, I wanted to help out somehow. I figure, hey! I'm a pretty active guy, I'm really into my health, and I like hearing other ppls sugestions and whatnot about the subject, and I have done a bit of research on the subject. so why not start a thread on it?
So basically this can include whatever ppl want. OH YEAH almost forgot, sort of a personal benefit for me is that I would want to hear other ppls workouts/exercizes. Doing a bench press is cool and all but the same routine gets boring after 2 weeks. So i guess this will help you get more motivation to keep at it, and keep things interesting.
And also, just so ppl know, im not some body-builder guy. I'm not super intense in the weight room. I'm 181 at 6' even. Although I make it a priority, because of all the benefits that good health and physique have (tons of energy, can help ppl move stuff when moving, better posture, and lets not forget attention from the ladies ), its not my life.
So feel free to post anything, ask anything, whatever. We're all here to learn and have fun right? So go for it.
=======================================
I guess I'll start the first subject. Basically, right now I;m trying to lose weight because for Halloween down at UD I'm going to be a chippendale , you can guess where I'm going with that. Basically I want the ladies to be like . So I'm trying to hit 175 lbs while keeping the same amount of muscle. Something I've started the past couple weeks is I weigh myself each monday before i workout.
So far the numbers came out to be....
185 lbs
182 lbs
181 lbs
179 lbs
181 lbs
I think the reason for the jump in weight is the fact that I've been eating mcDonalds before work. Yes, fast food is MURDER on your insides, but im lazy. , but I'm still lifting and running so we'll see where this goes.

right now, what i do as far as cardio is i run for something like 5-7 mins before i lift. And while lifting i do something like 3 sets of 12 on each, and with little rest so that my heartrate keeps up. I do this for 5 days and then on saturday I run or play football or something easy and fun.
What are you trying to do? like only cardio? or some lifting too?

i need to get back to working out.. but right now i cant get up the motivation cause my energy is none.. i know that ill get a lot of it back once i start again but its that first couple of weeks, another problem is i hate going alone
i used to run for 10 min in the morning before work and then do 5 min of running after work and then lift and that seemed to work out great with the right diet but i cant get up that early anymore and it sucks so i need to find a new workout plan for after work until i can get my energy up

i started going to the gym about every other day. I started maybe 3 weeks ago.
i spent about 10 minutes on a stationary bike at medium-maximun effort and i do upper body machines and legs. I've managed to lose about 12lbs now. I eat inside, some of those lean cuisine tv dinners, every once in a while hit up some fast food but i only get a small burger or something. weight lose made easy hehe.

I'm so tired today. I dont wanna go to the gym. Somebody either,
- Inspire me with some witty/cliche saying
OR
- Congratulate me on my laziness
Plus im going down to cincinnati this weekend for some halloween partying, so whatever i did this week will be negated from all that booze. HOORAY!

That could be. Try this exercise and see how you perform. Get a dumbell, not too heavy, something you could do maybe 12-15 reps on, and lay down on a flat bench. Perform a dumbbell press with one hand only. Start with your right side. Then go to your left and see how hard or easy it is. If you notice it is a lot harder, then you need to start bringing up your left side to be equal to your right.
O and Kaspar, what are you eating at McDonald's? While most of their food items are bad, they still have some not so bad options. You can get two egg mcmuffins and take the egg and ham from one of them, and combine it with the other. Double the protein, and half the carbs as two of them. Do you have a Wendy's near you? Their chili is fantastic, with good amounts of protein, and mix that with a side salad or a grilled chicken breast sandwich with no dressings or condiments, and you are set.

building muscle helps burn fat. Every 5 lbs of muscle on your body burns something like 150 calories a day even just sitting still

eat your weight in protein, lots of chicken, tuna, protein bars and shakes
you'll lean up real fast if you eat 6 or more small healthy meals a day plus take in you weight in grams of protein
eating fast food your just making it harder on yourself

That is actually not really necessary if he is just starting out again. If his body isn't used to eating that much protein, then he needs to build it up. So start at maybe 100 grams in a day for a couple days and then start building that up. Also keep in mind, carbs are a good thing, it just depends on what type you eat. Save the majority of your carb intake for your breakfast, and then for right after your workout.
Example:
Breakfast: Oatmeal, Whole wheat toast, fruit, yogurt etc.
You are aiming for slow digesting carbs so that they can keep you going longer.
After your workout you want fast digesting carbs
Example:
After Workout: Potato, white rice, rice cake/jam, white bread etc
Its ok to eat carbs throughout the day, just watch what type you eat and when.
