Question about gasoline
ok guys im new here and i just got my 07 tsx last week, last time i filled up my gas i put in 91 octane, my question is is it ok to put a lower octane gasoline in the TSX? whats bad about putting in a lower octane gas? is it just reducing the perfomance of the car or it actually will damaged the engine? thank you

run what the owners manual recommends, being a N/A car running a lower octane you will more than likely not have any engine damage. lower octane is a faster burn rate, the more octane the slower the burn rate, in your case to low of an octane can cause detonation, but with todays fuel injection systems they can adjust pretty well to a low octane and prevent this from happening

If you're trying to save money at the pump, I would have suggested not getting a car that runs on 91 to begin with. In reality, paying .10cents more for 91 than for 87 or whatever it is that you have, will probably cost you less than $100/year, which is a lot cheaper than replacing your engine due to detonation.

My mom just bought an 07 TSX and she puts 87 in it. When she got it she asked the dealer if 87 was ok and if she needed a higher octane, but he said no, so 87 is fine.

yeah but it adds up, .10 a gallon, say you burn 10 gallons a week, thats a dollar a fill up extra, and if you only burn 10 gal a week thats 52$ a year. Kinda depends how much you drive, but at the same time I see what you are saying, you can go with a cheaper and more economical car if you are worried about .10 cents a gallon

On Long Island, you're damn near sea level, and should be putting in 91, as the owners manual recommends. They didn't just pull that number out of the air for the heck of it. The high compression and long stroke warrants it. Perhaps someone at my altitude (5280 ft. ASL +) could get away with 87 since we have less oxygen here, but I still put in 91. The dealer probably meant that it's OK to put in 87 once in a great while in between 91 fill-ups, but I wouldn't run my car on it all the time... not to mention you'll never get the performance numbers out of it running on 87 as you would on 91. Probably worse gas mileage using 87 too.

your tsx has too high compression to run 87 effectively. you risk predetonation/preignition(aka bad noises and internal damage possible). now....warranty won't cover this damage when diagnosis indicates 87 in the tank. the rest is up to you.

My TSX will never see anything other than 93. Thats why I fill up the tank, park her for a few days and drive the Lude or ride my CBR. The sticker on the gas tank says PREMIUM ONLY!!!! Putting 87 in your TSX every once in a while is not ONLY.
Of course a salesman is going to tell you whatever you want to here when trying to make his commission. He'd tell you the car can run on Pepsi if it will push his sale. Once the car leaves his lot he doesn't care anymore.

.10 extra a gallon? Wheres this shit at?
Regular is $3.12 here, I just paid $3.48 for 93!
In any case, if you want to run 87, ask the dealer. If they say its ok, GET IT IN WRITING. That way if the engine does blow up, youre covered. You really shouldnt run 87 in a TSX, but if you have it in writing from the dealer that its ok, then go for it.

werd...that's not gonna fly son.
and i envy you guys $3.48 for 93...it's like $4.38 for 93 at certain gas stations 91, which is widely available, is $3.78 at most places. race gas is about $8/gal

About that gas.
I run 93 only in my F22 accord. Higher octane gas tends to be cleaner, less people use higher octane too, which also contributes to how much dirt could possibly be accumulating in the gas stations tanks.
It takes about 12-14 gallons to fill my car up(14 if its completely empty) so thats about 20 cents more a gallon for 93.(here anyways.) Thats a difference of $2.80 . OR $1.40 for 91 octane. I agree if your breaking the bank to buy a TSX and can't afford a lil extra on gas, just buy a civic. Besides why the heck are you complaining about gas with a 2.4L engine when you can get a cheaper car with a smaller engine which uses less gas- crybabies.
10.5:1 comp ratio can run 87, but as others have said, could cause detonation, or set off a knock sensor putting your vehicle into "safe mode" or w/e.
Whats worse is 87 burns hotter, and has been known to damage injectors on other vehicles. I think the Lincoln Navigator had a problem like that, from someone putting in 87 where the owners manual explicitly called for 91(or better).
Sirfallsalot243 - Usually increasing the grade of the gas you buy adds $0.10 onto the price per gallon. Some places add .10 for 91 and an additional .15 for 92/93. If I saw a gas station do that where I live, I'd take my business somewhere else.
