Does an ignition key for a TSX have a chip imbedded in it? I ask because my wife took it to the stealership yesterday to get a new key made. They told her it would be something like $150 to program the the chip inside the key. Do I need to go over there and make a scene?

it's actually a good thing. So far, I have not heard of any TSXs getting stolen. The DBW makes it a bit more difficult in that RSXs are starting to get stolen since you can put a Kpro ECU in it and bypass the ignition.

Yes the keys have a chip in them. To be clear in almost all dealerships it is not actually the key that gets programed but the ecu. The dealership uses a computerized interface to tell the ecu what key chips to allow to start the car and which ones not to. The system is called immobilizer and is the reason a green somewhat key shaped indicator flashes on your dash when you turn the car on. You can get a copied key without the chip to lock and unlock everything in the car including the doors and glove box and even turn the ignition on but the plugs won't fire (actually I don't remember if it disables spark or injectors) so the engine won't run. It would require two different accomplices working in a dealership and some expensive equipment to get a key to work for stealing a immobilizer equipped car and even if you did it would give away who did it.
Congrats for knowing that. But even though it is a separate unit it doesn't function that way. Its still programed through the DLC. If I remember correctly it is part of the F-can network but to be honest we don't really have enough problems with it to study it in detail. about the only thing in the system that ever needs to be replaced is the receiver (a ring that goes around the ignition key hole and talks to the chip in the key) and even that going bad is somewhat rare.
