tech wrench Air Conditioner Smell

I'm pretty sure this is tech, but if i'm wrong sorries!

Anyways... recently when I start my car and turn on the AC I get this weird smell... like the not so fresh smell comin off the AC.

Can anyone tell me why? And how I can fix it?

Thanks a bunch.

its the mildew inside your vents and shit cuz of the condensation that sits after you shut off your a/c... good way to get rid of it is always run w/ your vent open (the max a/c button or the vent button light off) that way, the air can circulate in there and you wont have condensation sitting in there.... also, turn off your a/c a block or two before you get to where youre going, and leave the vent open. should be good in a couple days after that.

Hmm I think what your telling me is how to do it on a Dodge Caravan... haha

So what I'm getting here is that I have the fan blowing at Max but with the AC off?

But I don't get your last part...

turn off your a/c a block or two before you get to where youre going, and leave the vent open. should be good in a couple days after that

How do you do that on a civic?

I think what he is telling you to do is to run your vents at full blast to get all the mildew out that has formed from condensation. And that before you turn your car off, turn your ac off and let the vents run at full blast so the mildew doesnt form again.

Also, your drain hose could be clogged so all the sondensation is not draining to the outside. Does water drip from your car when the AC has been on for awhile?

apparenly theres loads of bacteria/microbes in your vents (applies to AC cars only) and these spores which are released when you turn on your AC can trigger asthma and or coughs/itchy eyes

anyway my car has that funny smell, as did my starlet turbo before that, i think you just gota take your AC to get serviced and cleaned!

Is there a way I can clean the AC myself?
