tech wrench ecu problem

i bought a 97 civic ex and he was saying he swapped the engine to d16y8 (i dont know why he would waste his time doing a swap like that) but if i get on it i can only rev to 5g and the car will cut out and not revlimit cut out but totally bog out and wont even try to accelerate but when i shift i can go again only to 5g and it never does it in 1st gear but everyother gear. is this an ecu problem???

1 of 2 things is going on

1 he lied to you and your an idiot for believing him

2 he lied to you and your an idiot

97 ex came with the y8 if it didn't come with a y8 and he swapped one in then its not a ex its that simple.

1 the oil pressure solenoid will not allow vtec to engage if it is low on oil.

2 its gonna be tough but check the oil

3 the only difference between obd2a and obd2b are the ecu connections. all the wiring on the engine is the same.

4 no this should not be an ecu problem

5 if he swapped the engine he might have done a shitty job check his work

6 if what your really trying to say is once it hits 5000rpms it still accelerates but has no balls like it just fell flat on its face. then your vtec solenoid is not engaging

7 2 things can cause this problem
a: vtec not wired in properly if hes saying it did not have a y8 and he swapped one in(therefore you don't have an ex) this is most likely the case.
b: the vtec solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced

so right now you need to get your facts straight before you even continue. then go over this list and figure out which one best suits the situation

1 the title says ex 2 i never said its gutless after five i said it pretty much shuts down even if i hold the pedal to the floor rpms go down 3 vtec works fine in 1st and works when im not driving it hard 4 i just changed the oil three days ago thinking that might have been the problem so that elimanates that... v tec still work just not when driving hard so what now???

you have a hack wiring job is what you have i bet he has the wrong ecu. if it had a non-vtec motor in it first then it had a non-vtec ecu. check the code on your ecu, the right one is p2p i believe i may be wrong though, id you have to convert to obd1 and p28 that bitch

I believe your wiring needs to be gone over carefully. I think he fucked it up somewhere. probably when he repinned the ecu
