IACV Question

i know this has probably been covered countless times..i know how to clean the IACV but before i go cleaning and getting my hopes up that its going to fix my idle problem, i just wanted to run this by a couple honda forums and see if anyone can confirm it for me

alright, if i let my car sit once its warm without any lights or anything on the idle drops down way below 500 and it feels like its going to stall. i havent sat and watched it long enough to see if it will actually stall but if i turn my headlights on it idles perfectly and doesnt bog down.

so does that sound like an IACV issue or is there something else at hand??

thanks guys.

wow.. i answer this question like twice a week now..

any of these can contribute to a fluctuating idle. you more than likely have a vacuum leak, are low on coolant, or need to clean the iacv.

-remove the intake and thuroughly cleaned the throttle body with tb cleaner.
-removed the iacv, clean the mesh screen, and "massage" the solenoid. if the solenoid is working perfectly, it should operate when connected directly to the battery. (you will hear it "click")
-reset the ecu.
-checked the idle adjustment. is it adjusted appropriately?
-flush the coolant and kept a close eye for any coolant leaks. is the system leaking at all?
-check all the hoses going from/to the throttle body, intake manifold and intake for vacuum leaks, as well as the tb gasket. To verify a vacuum leak, while the car is idling, place the palm of your hand tightly over the throttle body so that it is air tight. the engine should stall out within a couple of seconds. if not, you most likely have a vacuum leak.

pretty sure i stated that i know how to clean the IACV -- how about paying attention to the question asked before you leave a smart ass answer. god it must be so hard to just be a human and answer a question without being a dick.

You're the one who should chill out.

You came on instantly acknowledging that you are sure it had been covered countless times.....then why the hell did you not just search and find an answer. Instead you set yourself up for a smartass response (though I hardly thought that rnstein's response was such).

And lastly, you have a y8 so the IACV is easily removable and sitting on the back of the IM.....absolute cake to remove and clean....so why the hell not just try it....I probably needs it anyways and checking the idle adjustment and vacuum should also easily be checked. Do 30 minutes of simple, brainless diagnostics before posting up a storm.

awww how tough of you jooo...bet that remark made your boyfriend proud.

first of all..just because i acknowledge the fact that something has been covered doesnt mean in any way that im setting myself up for a smart ass answer, if anything i would hope that someone would give me a quick answer instead of someone grumbling that they have to answer the same question...and just like you're doing now, instead answering the question i asked which was "alright, if i let my car sit once its warm without any lights or anything on the idle drops down way below 500 and it feels like its going to stall. i havent sat and watched it long enough to see if it will actually stall but if i turn my headlights on it idles perfectly and doesnt bog down.

so does that sound like an IACV issue or is there something else at hand??"

--instead i get a shitty answer and people get pissy about the response i give to the guy that didnt help me out at all but instead stated shit im already aware of

if i thought it was coolant or vacuum line related i wouldve asked if it could be those things as well. only thing i didnt check is the idle adjustment but it will still make no difference cause i wanted to know why the car would idle perfectly with my lights on or any accessory. and fuckin seriously, if you're soooooooo tireeeedddddd of answering these kinds of questions, then dont. plain and simple. there is absolutely no need to make it sound like its killing you to help someone out.

In the middle of rnstein's post, he says you should check your idle adjust. Sounds like it could be that. But taking the iac valve completely off and cleaning it thoroughly doesn't sound like a bad idea either. If you're still having troubles, i say cough up the dough and take the car to a garage you trust.

i'd close this thread if i were a mod.
OP, you might have known what to start off with, but neglected to include those things in your post. why would anyone tell you to start off checking the least-likely things first? instead of saying thanks, already did those things, you acted like you just got ass-raped and contempful.

people like you aren't going to get help here.

As just about everyone knows it's a rarity when I rag someone out, but Accordthis you are WAY out of line. Nobody acted jerky at all to you until for no reason you started lashing out. What reason does anyone have to help you when you react that way. This thread is deservedly being closed.
