tech wrench Installed timing belt. Now car is knocking when in reverse!?help.I need car for work

background-
I installed a timing belt a few months ago. Recently it became loose- more than 1/2 in. play. I took it off and it had stretched. I took it back because it was defective. I installed a new one last night.

problem-
Now, when I back up the car it knocks and it does this when I floor it "at times". It is fine at idle and driving at low/med. speeds. Checked the timing and it set to factory spec. The only thing I can think of is that I overtightened the belt- would this cause such a problem?

knock as in detonation knock?? what the hell are you talking about as far as knocking??

rod knock?? clunk knock?? detonation knock??

it ONLY happens in reverse?? you mentione low/medium speeds but never specifically what happens in forward gears...

What happens under load...you mashing the gas?? etc???

more info is needed but sounds like when the replacement belt stretched you took it off as-is and tossed the newest one straight on...hate to say it but your timing sounds like it's off a tooth or so...

Yeah, sounds like your timing. Make sure you lined up the crank pulley and gears and everything correctly. Good luck.
