installing type R style grille...how to?

I got one off of ebay and it came in black trim but the actuall mesh is silver. What type of paint should i use to paint the mesh black so it looks like an SI/type R front grille? should i paint the actual frame or keep it black since my car is black?

IMO keep it black because it looks cleaner. painting it would not come out as clean as buying it already painted.

For the paint. I would say any pricey paint that is for metal. You'll find a few brands at Home Depot. ..and when I say pricey I am just telling you to avoid the .89 or 1.99 cans that won't be as good. Pricey is about $5 at the most. I think the can to paint my headlights was like $3.89

I imagine you have a 6th gen civic :
If so, I have the grill and it's pie!

1) Pop your hood and you'll notice about 6 or 8 black plastic screws that hold the bumper in place just in front of the hood latch all across the front end.

2) Remove the necessary amount of screw to remove the stock center piece. Take a flat tip screwdriver and just wedge the center of the screw up and when it pops up, the entire thing comes right out. Takes like 2 seconds for one screw.

3) I believe once you remove the screws you have a clip or two that holds the grill to the bumper that you'll have to remove to get the grill out. You'll be able to tell what's holding the grill in place.

4) Place the new grill into place and put the screws back in. Pie Job!

PS <> I had to leave the two outer screws that hold the grill in place out because when they were in they would cause the bottom to pop out of place. It's because the contour of my grill is not 100% accurate. But, you can't tell the screws are missing and the look is damn Tyte!!!

Let me know if you have any more Q's!

BTW! This is the grill I have: $50 shipped
It's getting a little dull now so I may paint it black sometime....

and I imaigine this is the grill you have:

Well if you really don't want to paint it, at least wax it, it will make it a little bit shinier (is that a word?) and it will stay that way longer. And for the mesh try rustoleum, works like a charm. I've got the same grill, but for 99-00'.

I can't see why people are so afraid to paint stuff, if you take your time an follow directions its not that hard. Oh well, I've been doing it for a while so I guess I wouldn't understand.

Besides my mesh is already black as you know.....

The mesh on my grill is plastic and I believe yours is aluminum. I also did not like how the holes are so small on your type grill which just reminded me of that cheap gutter guard stuff you get from Home Depot. I would 100% paint it black or some color. I just don't like the bling bling

GSR98Civic - Where'd you get your grill? I've been looking for one like that, with plastic, more spaced out mesh...

Why don't you just take the aluminum mesh out? Looks cleaner IMO.
