JDM B16a SiR II LSD Going Bad?

Hey, I have a 92 Civic H/B with a JDM B16a SiR II motor. and my question is how would i know if the LSD on the transmission is going bad or not? Would it show any signs? I see oil leaks but not sure where it's coming from. I took my car over to a shop and they say that the reason why whenever i turned or U turn. I hear this noise. And that whenever I turn there's minor gaps between the transmission (where the axles/interm. shaft goes in) and leaks oil. Not sure if it's true or not. So therefore I wanted to ask you guys and see if you guys can help me out. Instead of paying $900 for another B series transmission. I'm not sure if the rear mount has anything to do with it. But instead of the B series engine bracket/mounts. I'm still using the D series rear engine bracket/mount. Let me know! Thanks!

i think your axle seals are going bad.
and if you hear a clunking/clicking noise from the front end when you turn then your axles are going bad.

axle seals. they rubber rings that are mounted on the tranny right where the axles go in the tranny to keep oil from coming out of the tranny. they're about $10 each at the dealer.

ok ok. let me get this straight. you guys think it's the axle seals? but then i heard it was the input axle seals?output seal?hub seals? Differential Seals? Which one is it? And what axle seals do i use? I have a JDM B16a SiR II motor. It should be the same motor from 99-00 Civic Si or Honda Del Sol VTEC motor right. So any of those input axle seals are ok right?

And how hard is it to change the input axle seals? I only hear the intense clunking noise whenever making a U turn or a turn. If i go straight. Cant hear no noise or whatsoever. ANd you can actually feel the clunking noise. It gets really really really bad!!! I get embarass whenever i make a U turn. All the hot babes would look at me. LoLz.

you guys dont think the rear D series mounts got anything to do with it right?

Is there both sides to the Axle Input Seals. Or just one side?

Is the Axle seals showing here in this pix?

so u said you hear the clunking noise when you make u turns. then yes you need new/rebuilt axles. here in NYC they go for $50 each and you have to give them your old ones back. you'll need axles from a 93-97 del sol vtec or 99-00 civic si.

i didnt really know there so many kinds of seals. i only knew of the axle seals which shows up in that picture you have but i dont really see any oil coming out of there. i'm talking about that black whole thats close to the center of the picture you have. the axles seals are located in that hole along the edge. you should have one for each side.

the d series mounts do not have anything to do with you axle problem.

so if the seals are bad. Does it affect the axles or anything. Does it makes it come out a little bit whenever i make a turn? If the seals are bad. Will it makes a noise whenever i turn? I heard the seals is to semi-lock the axles in place. So it dont come out. What is your experience with the axle seal? How hard is it to change it? Do i Just take the axles out and pop the seal out?

Because i've changed both axles already. Dont think it's the axles. And the problem still there. The Loud Intense Clunking noise is driving me nutz.

the seals dont affect the axles. the only thing that happens when the seals go bad is that oil is gonna leak out of the tranny. they have nothing to do with making noise when you turn.
its not hard to change the seals. just pull the axle out and then pull out the rubber o ring with your finger or if not use a flat head screw diver to pop it out. you press it back in with your fingers.

if you changed the axles and its still making the noise you might have a more serious problem. i dont have any experience with LSD's so i cant really help u there.

Have you checked your transmission oil. To check it, your car has to be on level ground and unbolt the fill bolt on the transmission. There should be oil up to the fill hole, if not then fill it up. Since you know it's leak then it should be low. I'm not positive but most Honda's use 10W30 Motor Oil. But the best is getting the Manual transmission oil from honda which is basicaly motor oil with a little extra stuff. I would just put regual oil in there till you can get to the deal and then buy enough to do a transmissioin oil change. In front wheel drive the differential and transmission is in the same housing. Are you having a harder time putting your car in gear or does it feel any different? Are your drive shafts in all the way cause you said there were gaps between the transmission and axle when the wheel is turned. Try pulling on the axle where it meets the Transmision and see if it moves outward, if so then you have to push in till you hear a click. You are hearing a clicking/clunking sound when you turn because the disc are locking in on both axles instead of varying the power between both accordingly.

I'm not sure if this is true or not but does both axles have a ring clip or something to lock it in place? Because when i bought the axles i dont think the ring clip is there. Not sure. But can someone check if B series axles have a ring clip on the end.

yeah, there should be a little ring around the end of the axle to lock them in. That could be your problem. Did you check your oil level cause most likely it is low.
