Is my timing belt loose? How much play is acceptable?

I installed a timing belt and there is about a 1/2 inch of timing belt play between the cam sprocket and the water pump area. It seems kind of loose, but maybe it is not. Is 1/2inch too much at this location? It is pretty snug between the cam sprocket and tensioner- like 3/8inch play.

Should be pretty tight all the way around, well, a little tighter than that. Does it still run ok? I would tighten it just a bit if it were me. Did you reconnect that spring in there?
