New To Honda
Hello all,
I am looking to buy myself a civic (eg hatch in particular), and was wondering what some of problems these cars have, and what to look for before I buy it. I will not really be upgrading anything as of yet, so I am just looking at getting one for DD purpose. Looking to fix up the paint, and that is about it for now. As far as it being a used car, what should I look for? CV boots dry rotted? Leaking and damaged half shafts? Making sure the syncros in the trans are good, and ask about the timing chain? The car has 127k miles on it...not alot for a honda, but milage and age none the less. Thank you.

err d series engines do not have timing chains. really most hondas use belts.
I haven't found any real reoccurring problems. only normal maintenance stuff. so just check over your basic shit and your good to go

Alright, that is what I wanted to hear. Hopefully I will be able to pick this thing up. I didn't notice ealier while lurking through the site, but is there a sticky somewhere with basic information on civics? I.E. liquid capacitance, curb weight, stock power and torque, wheel base length, ect? So the half shafts are not a concern? I know when my friend put a used b18c1 in his ex, he kept blowing half shafts...but that might have been because he doesn't know how to drive. No issues like that?

he probably fucked something else up causing that problem. it wouldn't hurt just to take a peak underneath and see if they are ripped. just go over the car like you would any other car checking the normal stuff. any thing you can visually check, check it.
I got to ask theres a thread right next to this one, of a noob asking some really basic info thats been covered over a million times. have you seen that shit on domestic sites as well? or is just the import crowd that has all the stupid kiddie wannabes?

On the site I frequent....wont list because I didn't read the rules, and Don't want to risk violating them by posting up another forum's website....We have very informitive stickys at the top about very basic questions. In the gen 3 external section on my site, top has whole list of basic bolt ons, what they do, differences, ect. We have a noob section also with stickys explaining shit, and giving links to informative threads and whatnot.
Our site is typically very mature, well manored, and informative...but we do get some serious dumb fucks. There also is alot of domestic pride, but others who like to look at and respect all types of cars, like boosted, nicely done civics, and clean supras and shit. There are dumb ass's on all sites, import and domestic.

well we have the stickies the noobs just don't like reading them I guess?
I wouldn't worry about violating rules around here. since the buy out this place has gone to shit as of admins and what not. there are still a few good mods around but as a whole the new owners don't give 2 shits about anything that on with this site. a few of us are trying to get things changed but as it is now I don't know

Well, it is always like that. To bad there isn't too many admins though. On our site...fuck it..ls1tech.com....the just moved 4 mods up to Admins. And these guys are some of the best and smartest people over there. Hell, one is a KB Cobra owner lol. But anyway...I think I have an idea as to why this site may have immaturity, and all around dumbasses.
1) Civics and tegs are cheap. Kids can buy them. Therefore, not knowing to much, they do stuff they shouldn't. Thus came "rice".
2) Fast and the Furious....well we don't even need to go on about that one.

pretty much everyone here despises that movie and what it did to us.
I've been to that site back in the day, good site.
we are trying to get admins and mods put in place to help with the situation but we don't know yet.
they are cheap to buy but to be serious about they can get expensive. and your right most kids on here just wanna rice the shit up. we don't like rice. well maybe some sweet rice or some pork fried rice. it just gets old you know what I mean.
maybe I should just give up and go back to my old cars that I love so much. maybe I'll get another 65 c-10 maybe I'll find that 59 apache I want.

What are you implying? As in knowing how to tastefully mod cars, and how to be mature, or the car scene in general, and where the money is at?

i believe he meant in general and as a mature person. a poor kid who wants a fast car starts with a civic and builds it up, where as a rich kid who wants a fast car can just buy the fast car straight out and then start modding. i dont think he meant anyhting dis-wise, just as a whole, alot of people cant afford an ss outright like some of the more "fortunate" dare i say.

Yea, this is true. This is also why I believe there is, imo, a lot more "rice" in the import scene, then in the domestic. There is still some fucked up muscle cars, but for the most part, in what I have seen myself, hondas and eclipses, along with kias and other imports, are the ones that mostely get the mis-matched body kits, neons, overly large exhaust for the engine output, ect.
