PERFORMANCE SPEED (RESISTOR) FUEL SAVER ...REAL OR FAKE?

I saw this ad on ebay about the Performance chip (resistor) which it attaches to the Intake Air temp circuit in the MAF Harness to trick the ECU (by making it think the air coming into the engine was colder than it really is)into injecting more fuel (to compensate for the apparently higher density)

Could this be possible....?

Has anybody tried this....?

If it works, how much is the difference.....?

Here is the actual ad........

eBay Motors: HONDA CIVIC 1992-2007 PERFORMANCE SPEED CHIP FUEL SAVER (item 250398322777 end time Mar-30-09 13:09:02 PDT)

So, let me get this straight, more fuel, same amount of air, and you think you are going to make more power?

this used to be a trick in the early days of electronic fuel injection, but it never really worked.

the idea is the ecu will think the air is colder, so it will send more fuel, and some will up the timing a bit. 99% of the time you lose gas mileage and hp. what a lot of people did before there were options to tune an ecu is used this when using a power adder such as a turbo or nitrous so that the engine wouldn't lean out.

basically you are going to spend money to make your car run worse

Everything liek that on EBAY is crap. Pure and simple. I watched a test of all that Ebay crap on powerblock and they tested that intake turbine thing, the magnetic spark plug rail, and the ECU re-mapper auto tuner, and some other stuff, and every single thing reduced the power in the car, by 10 to 12hp in some applications, which is an incredible amount of power loss. The "magnetic" thing melted onto the valve cover of the truck and caused a fire, and the "ECU chip" was actually just an LED with a resistor in it to not blow the LED. IT had a power and a ground wire, and then a yellow wire to connect the device to a wire only on when "accessory" is selected - this is the simplist wiring cicuit for a light, but you were meant to belive that it somehow controlled a pice of the ECU. It cost $150 off EBAY with $8 shipping and was literally just a light, they took it apart and it was just a green LED with a resistor and something that looked like a microchip, but it wasn't actually attached to anything.

They tested a bunch of other stuff and said that basically, anything you see on Ebay or Amazon that fills in the name of the car, I.E: "the best performance upgrade for the 1993 HONDA CIVIC..." where it capitalizes the exact name of your car is a load of shit. "Best upgrade in power magazine for the 1923 HONDA CIVIC SI" IT will not usually matter what year you type in, it all advertises the same. Anything that seems too good, and too cheap to be true, IT IS. The end.
