well, now that i know some of the specs of this turbo, think i'm going to re-sell it. not going to be near enough umph for what i'm wanting. much better suited for a d series turbo setup. i should have had the original turbo i bought for $10 rebuilt like i originally planned. oh well. hindsight is always 20/20.

anywho, if anyone is interested in a cheap turbo, lmk.

the current plans are for tunertoys h-beam rods, micropolish and balancing crank, upgraded valvetrain, undecided on the pistons as of yet.

all seals, gaskets, and bearings are being replaced as well. not going to take any chances with them .... assuming the block is even in worth condition.

yea, that piece is a pita. much easier with the engine out of the car if it's not already. think there's only 1 bolt holding it in... maybe two. can't remember exactly

Yeah, the engine is out of the car. I have the manifold and all off. It's basically a naked block with the engine harness hanging off it lol. I've been working around it this entire time because I can't get the bitch off!

very small turbo, i know, but i basically got all 3 of these parts for the price of the crank.... definitely a turbo that's better suited for a d16/d15 imho.
IIRC, that turbo is good until about 250whp, so it should make for a very fun setup.

mostly what i'm worried about is it hitting full spool too early and dropping off quickly.

but, it from a 2.0L saab (or volvo... can't recall which), so perhaps not. i may give it a try just to get the build done if it doesn't sell before then. i've got a ssacrap manifold to bolt it to and give it a whirl

i really wanted something closer to a 60-trim turbo or the super-60, but like i said, i couldn't pass this one up.

so i'm at a bit of a crossroads here...

i can't decide to go for ls/vtec setup... or build the ls head.

putting cams and valvetrain in the ls head is going to run around a grand.

an ls/vtec conversion is going to cost about the same, maybe less, if the head is in good condition and stays stock. shelling out $700 for an ITR head seems to be a little better than dropping $1000 for the ls head.

the only thing is, the ecu i bought is for an ls motor.

anyone have any opinions? either is a viable option, and i'm having trouble deciding which way to go. seems like the vtec head would have better resale value than the built ls head. not sure i'm wanting to go and sell them in the future, but you never know.

If considering resell, a vtec head would be a better way to go.

For up-front cost, resale, and power potential, VTEC is the way to go. I got most of what I had into my GSR head back out again when I sold it, but then it was also still brand new and I did hunt for bargains on all of it. You could feasibly buy a VTEC head, use it for a couple years, then sell it for close to what you paid if it's still in good shape. If you put $1000 into an LS head you'd be lucky to get half that back.

Hit me up for info I know a local guy who is pretty cool and did have a B16 complete head for sale at a good price. I could check for you and see if he's still got it. As for the ecu, well just sell it and get the correct one! Or send it to phearable.net or something for VTEC conversion/socketing.
