Haha, I was yakking with a buddy and going over all my past intented setups which I began collecting parts for but never completed...I think I came up with 10-12 builds that went bust, except for the stock LS swap which is now removed and parted out. Argh! Well I think with the block you have you can finish doing a complete LS/VTEC setup for $1000, including header, ecu, etc...

i HAVE to finish this... prior to graduating.... at least the motor build anyway. the turbo setup can wait a bit. i just don't want this stuff sitting in the garage too long or i'll lose interest!

hell, i may just put everything back together cleaned up and factory fresh after the block checks out, then boost it and see what happens

as easy as it's gone so far, i may just do that atcually. i'm about to get a truck to drive, so the civic being down wouldn't be too terrible if i decide to get new valvetrain, or vtec head...

Well let me know later when you figure it out...I might be picking up a spare VTEC head package, I can probably get it to you for around the cost of Crower cams/valvetrain for the LS.

well, i got my pulley holder in the other day.

this is a pretty quality tool. got it off of ebay for under $40 shipped. much larger than i was expecting it to be

and i got off work a bit early today, so i went to get the crank bolt out... first time i've done this. at first i had the breaker bar and pulley holder opposite of each other and put my wieght on them pushing them both down. not a snowballs chance in hell that was going to work... so i did this:

the pipe is just an aluminum pipe that came off our patio umbrella doing it this way, the crank bolt "broke" pretty easily actually. when we put the current b18b in my car and tried to remove the crank pulley, we tried the flywheel jam method, which was very unworthy of my ever trying again.

after i removed the oil pump and rear crank seal, i removed the old crankshaft, and that's when i noticed a perculiarness in the block...

that's not a flash effect, it's really that clean on one side, and that dirty on the other. kinda confused as to how that happens

anywho, this is probably the last of what i'm going to accomplish for awhile.

stay tuned SHO'ers.

Great work, This is rather interesting to me, cuz I'm almost doing the same exact thing, though it's only a B16 not B18, but I'm just waiting for the motor, to start working on it.

if i stick with the turbo i have now... i'm going to shoot for about 220whp. if i can source another turbo by the grace of god (i can't save money for sh!t, and the mrs. hates me spending paychecks on car parts) that's a bit bigger, i'm going for 300whp.

there's a person locally that's selling one that i *really* want, but it's more money than i have right now.

plus i need to wait and see what i decide on the head portion of the build. there's a couple vtec heads local for sale that may be too good to pass on, so i don't know... $400 for a COMPLETE pr3-4 head (i/m, t/b, dizzy, everything)... so i am going to check that out.

Haha! that bolt is a bitch to break. All I had was a toque wrench. I ended up having to do like you, but I used a pole from a chain link fence (about 5 ft long) and used that for more leverage, even that was hard. That initial "POP" it makes is scary as shit!

oh man, i thought my pipe was breaking, or the impact socket i was using. didn't really take *that* much force once i approached it that way... leverage is a beautiful thing

i half expected to fall into the engine when it broke because i was basically leaning on the pulley-holder.

i can't stress enough how much that tool was worth for that. will also make changing my own t-belts a breeze now

Shit, I wish I had that tool

It's torqued to 150 ft/lb's right?

Thats a pretty sporty amount of torque for a bolt.

yea, 150lbs, and can take up to 300 ft lbs to get it off! luckily, i'm a hefty guy

got my tool off of ebay, works for d & b series crank pulleys...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Honda...QQcmdZViewItem

same thing as what i got, about the same price.
i was about an hour too late getting a moroso one from ebay, which was also a local guy probably could have gotten it for <$15

oh wells

not much been going on with the build lately. started classes again, and haven't had much time to do anything really between classes and work.

I have, however, made a decision on what route to go.... i just got one helluva deal on brand new crower stage 2 turbo cams, and valvetrain...

so, straight ls for now will keep ya guys updated, probably take some pics of the new stuff when i get it.
