security question

hey my 98 ex was just broken into two nights ago. i now have it under close watch in my driveway.
so heres the story. i come out of the mall and i unlock my door. and uhhh ooo it doessnt unlock .hhmmmm its already unlocked. i look in and its alll ripped apart dash and everything. nothing was stolen thankfully. they poped my window out of the track and pulled it outside of the weather striping to unlock my door. the cops said it was attempted theft and they couldnt get the car started. so ne way i need help...

I love my car soo much just like every person on this forum and i am worried sick about my car now and i need to know what can i do to keep it safe. and i want the best security for the money. i dont have alot to spend. a viper alarm is already on the way. 2 way 1 mile radius.

If you have power locks, install sedan rear door handles on the front doors, no keyholes to mess with.

Search this site and Google about a fuel cut-off switch. Only costs a couple of bucks and is very helpful in trying to keep your car where you parked it.

If your Viper alarm doesn't came with a window-break sensor, pick one up from their website.

Thats all you need really dude is a good alarm but if your car has hightech shit inside then you should look into keyless entry and shave your door handles and key hole. They will stay away ... I bet if u had an alarm then ther thiefs would have kept moving along an had not hit up your car...

i'm suprised no one said a kill switch yet. its a great and cheap effective way to prevent them from taking your car.

others are:
autolock
taking fuses out
aftermarket steering wheel
get backup bat and sirens for your alarm
reroute your hood release
and i'm sure theres more out there if you search

The guys were watching your car plain and simple. They waited for you to go to a place were you would be inside for awhile and couldnt see your car. I would start asking people you know because usually its only 1 group of people stealing civics in 1 area because of how hot they get and cops watch them. Im guessing it was sombody that you dont really hang out with but sees you around alot like a friend of a friend. Sounds like he wasnt very expieranced either you can unlock a civic door with any civic key if you jiggle it right and same with the ignition. Guy couldnt jiggle the door and got nervus and people think stupid when they dont know what to do so he breaks the weather striping and bends the window out figuring he can jiggle the ignition. He probably tryed that for a couple minutes got pissed and started fucking up your car. Like you said he didnt take anything. Anyone with expeirance would have taken stereo speakers and everything he could take off the car(even OEM stereo and junk). Probably a friend that wanted somthing you had. Yes I have stolen quite a few cars in my day and went to jail for 8months for doing it. People get stupid man if you get an alarm make sure its one with a blinking light or led somwere in the car so they know at night and wont even get close to your car to think about it. If your car looks stock then it could have been anybody but if it has rims and shit usually thiefs wont fuck with it because stuff like that gets around. Just watch your car because if he didnt get caught he might come back with another key to try agian I had my selfish days and regret it everyday because people dont trust you anymore. Life sucks and people are greedy even friends

A few of the things I have done or plan to do:

- Fuel cut-off
- Power locks, rear sedan door handles
- Locking lug nuts, one different one on each tire
- Quick-release steering wheel with NRG hub lock.
- Alarm with window break sensor, high sensitivity tilt/vibration sensor, and if really paranoid the infra-red sensor for a "too close" warning... that would be annoying though.
- One thing I did in my girlfriend's car was wired up a small blinking LED to a AA battery and drilled it into her dash. Battery lasts surprising a few months. All she has to do it kill the engine and it starts blinking.
