I'm stuck deciding between a 99si and a 04si, i know the newer one had a bit more displacement and torque yet same horsepower, but everywhere i go it says its slower than the 99.. weight maybe? Or are they basically the same speed only the 99 has high compression? I'm going for a goal of around just under 275 horses, and was wondering what you guys thought... tired of my ol' 96' integra LS with its no vtec and I thinkmy 93' si hatch felt alot more fun to drive..
The only reason im not getting a type-s RSX is premium gas, but i figure the si's cost about 2-4k less so it evens itself out..

opinions!
The difference between regular and premium is what 3-4 bucks per fill up....when a fill up is 35+ dollars, it really doesn't matter in the end .
The 04 SI is a guppy minivan. Go for 6G SI.

The newer Si might be softer than it ought to have been, but at least it's a hatch like all true Si's should have been. I've seen some really sweet looking ones with just some good wheels and minor cosmetic stuff. And regardless of the shape at least it's not getting dated-looking yet like the old Si which is now 8 yrs old at best. Plus it's got K-series, not the top o' the line version, but good place to start.

Alright first off let me thank anyone who responds to this post. I am about to buy my first new car...and my number one choice is the 2008 honda civic coupe EX auto with the nav(other is 08 lancer GTS with nav) I am not knowledgable when it comes to cars at all(i have a 78 silver anniv. corvette and i couldnt tell you what engine is in it) I reason I like this civic is the MPG, the reliabilty, (i have been told to 175000 to 200000 miles is possible if taken care of) and the price (hoping to be around 20.5-21g)
I was hoping i could hear some honest pros and cons of this car, brand
Also I wont be doing any kind of modifications or alterations to the car except in the way of the audio equipment...does anyone suspect that the dvd screen would be lacking in terms of hooking up after market equipment

again thanks to anyone and all
175k-200k if not taken care of ......500k+ with good maintenance.
The 8th gen. Civics have the new R18s and have not been on the road for very long so they don't yet have the track record that the D/B series, for instance, has. I couldn't see them being bad engines but they have a lot to live up to with the old D series or the current Ks.
A couple things not so great.....they are really heavy....if I remember correctly they are like 2800-2900 lbs.....if they were as heavy as the 6th gens, they'd be getting like 30/40 mpg. Honda autos have always been lackluster slushboxes...I'd go with a manual.
Good: Honda learned from their mistake called the 7th generation Civic .....joke. But seriously they changed the front suspension on the 7G civics and it was a bad choice. Leaking, fast wearing shocks and springs and less then stellar handling even for a economy compact. They went back to the double wishbone front suspension....excellent choice in my opinion.

Yeah before I got rid of it my old 93 civic si hatch had 330k miles on it, and i was still racing it all the time, never burned oil, sealed tight, etc.
I now have a 96 integra which basically feels like a bigger version of the honda, and it's got 202k miles on it! Honda's Forever!
The 06+ Civic Is a car i would consider definitely in the new car market

Do you have real life mileage to go by? All I've seen are the EPA estimates and they're 30/40mpg for A/T and 30/38mpg for M/T. Their curb weights range from ~2600lbs for a DX to over 2900lbs for an Si sedan. The 2dr A/T EX he is looking at is said to weigh 2769lbs. That's still a few hundred pounds lighter than the new Lancers and it's rated for 8-9mpg more. I'd definitely expect the Civic to outlast the Lancer.

Yeah, no real life mileage....and you are right, the new EPA ranking is pretty strict, but the five speed is rated at 26/34 which for a Civic seems pretty blah if you ask me but it must assume you drive it hard (like most people do in the US, which is probably why the EPA changed their ratings). Anyway, my 110k 98 DX gets 32mpg city and upwards of 40 mpg on pure highway mile trips.

Hey, im pretty new to this whole fixing my car thing. I have a 1991 Civic DX hatchback. It was sitting in my back yard for the past 4-5 years. I just bought a new battery and started it up for the first time in years. Now my question is, what should i do next? Like what are the things i should do to tune this baby up? here are pictures of it
and are there any cool "do it yourself" things i can do it it?Please let me know.thanks
You're going to want to powerwash the entire car first, including the engine bay. A clean car always seems to run better. After that do all the usual tune up stuff like spark plugs and wires, distributor, brake pads, drain and refill coolant, throw some injector cleaner in your tank, 165 degree thermostat, stock replacement struts and 2 new tires for the front. All this except for the tires can be done in your driveway and it's pretty easy beginner stuff. Your car should be running pretty smooth after that.

Hey I have a '00 CX hatch auto with a stock Y7. I found a '96 h22 auto complete engine swap for $2k. Would it be worth swapping into my Civic even though its still auto? Or should I spend the extra money and find a manual tranny swap with it too? How much do you think that would all cost? Thanks
