Disabling somthing means it is ready to be used quickly. IE: turn it on with a switch or reconnect the wire to the solenoid. Removed makes it IMPOSSIBLE to activate the item without dismantling the head and reinstalling what was REMOVED.
Removing half or all the parts still presents the SAME result - a non-functioning system that requires major work to restore it's functionallity.

"context" is the limiting factor. if i take your cams out of your car i have have disabled your car. I have "removed" your cams and "disabled" it's function, or i could say removed it's "ability" to function. either term will suffice. Vtec is a function comprised of many moving parts. to remove one of those many parts will disable your vtec capabilities or remove it's capabilities. on/off has nothing to do with it. on/off= on/off. you don't disable your lights. you turn them on/off, they are functioning as they should they aren't disabled or removed from action.

do you understand parts of speech. the car is the subject, the function is the verb i.e action. when you removed the battery. You removed/disabled the cars ability to function.
i'll apply it to vtec.
when you Remove a critical component, the action is disabled/removed.
Toda killer cams remove the vtec action. they also disable the vtec action. you have it stuck in your head the disable means you still can turn it on/off and you can't. you're the one who is confused. if something is disabled it doesn't work anymore. turning a light on/off is part of it's function. when the light is off it's functioning how it should. it was "designed" to work that way. when i light becomes disabled it is broken and must have parts or power source restored
