well you need to swap something I can't remember if its the plugs or if its something inside the dizzy or both. I believe when you swap out the plugs theyre connected to something inside the dizzy and you replace it as one piece. but I still don't know what to tell you about the cps
i would say just swap out the distributor but the cps is in the dizzy on the z6. when I swapped mine I just changed out the dizzy. but the engine I had was a little off. it was an obd2 engine in a obd1 car. so it was a y8 but the dizzy was obd1 and the ecu unfortunetly was an obd2 p28 go figure. use the search function a couple people have done it in this forum. sorry i couldn't help much

just use the dizzy off your old motor. The only thing useful is the short block. unless you want to convert your obd2 to obd1..... kinda against the law here in cali..... its up to you. D series are basic bolt ons.

you must have missed where I said on the obd2 y8 the cps(crankshaft positions sensor) is on the front of the engine at the crank and the obd1 z6 the cps is in the distributor itself. he can't just use his old dizzy without modification.

That is not correct. The distributors have all the same sensors inside them, internally they function exactly the same. The sensor on the end of the crank with OBD2 engines is the CKF (crank fluctuation sensor) it is an additional sensor for OBD2, which he will be throwing a code for unless he changes the oil pump w/sensor, timing belt gear, & lower timing cover to the Y8 ones.

I have gutted swapped back and forth OBD1 with OBD2 distributor internals, also between B-series and D-series they are compatible. First thing would be to try to install the Y8 distributor but if it doesn't fit then swap the internals from the Y8 dizzy over into the Z6 dizzy housing. If you need help I'm planning to make a write-up on it.

would the code affect the way the engine runs? cant i use a obd1 ecu instead of changing the oil housing?

I believe it does make you run crappy. There is a way to trick the ecu other than putting all that stuff on to convert your engine to OBD2...I almost forgot about it. By splicing those sensor wires onto some other wires, I've never done it but it looks simple and here is a tuturial for you to try out and see if it helps...

i Don't know if you got everything to work or not but I just did a z6 swap into my 99 civic. alot of things are different I didn't have time to swap alot of shit so I made dew with what was there.

1st evap purge is different its sits on the back of the im instead of on the fuel rail
2nd the injector plugs are different, I swapped out injectors from the y8
3rd the throttle cable clip on the im is different and sits too close for the throttle cable of a y8
4th the fuel rail is obvoiusly different you can't swap to the y8 rail I tried it doesn't work. the reason this is important the fuel line for the rail has 2 prongs sticking off it to hold it in place, they hit the rail and won't allow the line to sit flush. I bent them out of the way.
to avoid this headache it would be wise to just swap out intake manifolds, I didn't have time or the gasket to do this.
5th the alt. has different plugs.
6th the front motor mount is obvoiusly different swap to the y8
7th the power steering pump bracket is connected to the mount bracket on the z6 the y8 its not, you need to swap this bracket as well.
9 the rear mount is longer on the z6 then the y8. I didn't know this, they look quite close. well I put on the z6 mount and found this after I was bolting everything up
10 top tranny mount is also different swap it.
11 swap internals of the distibutor to the y8 internals while your at it change out the seals.
12 the black oil thing under the intake is different. the z6 mounts the harness differently I swapped it out so I could bolt my harness up with no problems

and of course you need to do that thing for the crank fluctuation sensor that klunge has the link for above.
