Tach Question

My friend has a 99 Civic Hatch w/ a D16y7...He has a tach hooked up to it, and everything is hooked up correctly but, the tach shows 1 grand off... The car also has no rev-limiter. He says he has tached it to 8 grand. Let me know if you have ran into similar problems. Thanks in advance!

if the tach is 1000rpm off theres 1 of 2 things it can be

1. its not hooked up correctly/ its not on the right setting

2. the needle has been moved

personally I think its #1. depending on which way its off he could rev it to 8000 rpm according to that tach. the rev limiter is set at 6800 rpm for a y7. 7200 for a y8.

but the real question is. why in the hell did he need a tach for a y7? please don't tell me its some 6" tach sitting on the dash somewhere? go over to him and slap him across the head for me and tell him to go buy and ex gauge cluster so he doesn't fuck anything else up. simple plug and play. and if he leaves it alone the rpm gauge will be correct

personally I use an integra cluster in my 99 civic. looks great and goes up to 150 mph and 8500 r

i have another idea too. if he wants looks, get an edm sir cluster. lights up nice, goes higher in mph and rpm, and is also plug and play. but for the record i second the bitch slap. the only thing a monster tach is good for is the shift light. and since you can buy those sep. w/ rpm pills, its good for nothing

I totally agree w/ the bitch slap...already given and recieved...In his defense though, he has only had the car for about 5 days now and it was in there when he bought it...It is about a 6" tach to lol...I suggested the si cluster and he is considering it...Thanks
