Tranny swap?

Ok, I have been looking to swap my daily driver's tranny (auto) to a manual to replace my other car... since it was just sold cuz the insurance was CRAZY high...

The cheapest ive found was 3k... that a good price?

also, is it easy enough that I should be able to do it at home?

ive installed intakes, exhausts, headers, and some other stuff, but a transmission is ALOT more complicated and I really dont wanna fuck up... but im not sure I wanna pay 3-4k... lol

would it be worth it?

where did you get that price? you could buy a b-series motor and tranny for that much and everything to install it and still have money left over! me and a friend converted his 95 ex to a five speed for like $450. and its not that hard to do, just take your time and be patient with it

really? hmmm...

what EXACTLY would u need to swap?

i think i wanna keep my D17. its got ok power, but has GREAT gas mileage... I just want a 5 speed so I can feel more "in control" of my car, and enjoy it more. I LOVED my manny car... hate auto... it makes u feel like ur beeing driven around... not like ur in control.

that and honda autos are complete slush boxes. lol

He has a 7th gen civic. His swap options are limited. His only real choices are work with the d17, or swap in a k-series.

If you actually have the $3K or more you were planning to drop on a tranny, I'd say shoot for the K-swap. There are several versions though, ultimately your total budget will determine which version you get. The mounts, harness, ecu stuff costs the same regardless, so price out all that auxilary stuff you need first, then see what you have left over for the actual engine/trans. Could be anywhere from $1500-4500 for base K to best available!

well, one of my CDs just matured so I have just over 10k to play with. but im not sure how much I wanna spend...

I am not too sure I wanna swap to a K seeing as i really doubt Im mechanically inclined enough to do it, and im not sure i wanna get rid of such a new D... it only has 55k. good MPG too.

anyone have any tranny links? i REALLY want one. new is better, but used works too.

Well there aren't many options for D-series trannies, the EX manual will be the best thing you can find, maybe have an LSD installed in it to increase traction and handling. I don't know if it will be a hassle on a 7th gen or not, on the older ones it's not too bad but situations vary...
