Tune up Time?

Well, my civic has around 44,000 miles on it... Is there anything I should do to tune it up? I'm gonna do an oil change soon, should I do anything else? Such as Spark plugs or anything...

I don't know if this is a problem with my car... But it's been starting up kinda slow lately... might just be the cold though... It never did that last year, but then again it wasn't as cold last year...

Oh, and I also noticed that sometimes it "lags" a bit between 2300 - 2900 rpm in like 2nd or 3rd gear... It doesn't do it all the time, but sometimes it does...

Thanks.
-Girl

Ya, for sure change the spark plugs, especially if you haven't ever done it before. My tuner changes mine all the time. Maybe 3 times within the last month or two.

Yeah... How much would you think it is to replace the Starter? Cuz it didn't start this morning, that's why I'm still here at home...

I pray to god you've changed the oil before with 44,000 miles. For a tune up that usually involves.

New Air Filter, Spark Plugs, Spark Plug Wires, Distributer Cap and Rotor, and a PCV valve if your car is equiped with one.

If you are going to replace the plugs, try the Bosch Platinum, they last for like 100,000. I bought plugs wires and distributor cap and rotor on like 30,000 miles ago and no more problems for me. At 44,000 you shouldnt really need to do very much to it.
look at the plugs and see if they ar eblack around the tips, if they are replace them. Look at the wires, if they're arched and look burnt replace them. Pull the distributor cap off and look at the rotor, if its fried replace it. I had stock everything in my civic until 80,000 miles though. I still havent replaced the starter or any other major electrical other than what i mentioned.
I bought everything for around $120 at murrays. If you go to NAPA and tell them you get the mechanics discount, you'll get 10% off.
If its cranking but not starting you should check the plugs against the head and see if you get spark. Its an easy trouble shoot. If all else fails, it could be the ignition module, but i highly doubt it.

Right now we put it in the garage and we're charging the battery... But what's gay is that we pushed my car down a hill going at least 15mph, dropped it into 1st and it still didn't start... Then we tried again and again dropping it into 2nd and it still didn't start... Gay. Hopefully it starts later on.

After some thinking and pooping, I think I know what it is... I think the fuel line might be frozen or something... Cuz it started up this morning, then it turned off when I went inside the house for like 5 minutes...

Yeah, I doubt it's the starter, especially since it started & ran, but then wouldn't start again. I mean, you are in Minnesota...I'm in Michigan and it's crazy cold, and my car barely started this morning. It's even colder up where you are so no surprise if your fuel lines froze up. When you fill up next get some of that antifreeze stuff for gas tanks, or they also suggest not getting below 1/4 or 1/2 tank when it's this cold.

I've heard nothing but bad things about bosch platinums in hondas. Stick with the $2 NGKs.

Also, there's a basic truism to follow regarding most car parts: Long-lasting means lower performance. Platinums last forever, but so do your grandma's 185/75r13 tires with 600 treadwear rating. Last forever but no good for performance. Copper plugs have a stronger spark than platinum, as copper is just about the best electrical conductor around. But copper is very soft and corrodes over time so you must replace them more often.

i don't know if u know this but, if u ever noticed u have to hold down the clutch to start the car.... right?. . anyway this
is called the nuetral safety switch, it's so u can't crank the car when it's in gear. it makes it near impossible to bump start a civic. i'm not tryin to be a d#%k., just thought i'd let u know.

Why can't you bump start a civic? Don't you have to hold the clutch down to start every manual tranny car?

nope. they started puttin neutral saftey switch's in manual trannies in 1990, anything be4 that didn't have them.... it was a feature 4 automatic's only. that's why u can bump start older cars and not any of the newer ones.. . . . it's f@#k'ed up if ya ask me:
