A warning to all.

So its been some time since I have been on the forum, things have been busy for me. Anyways, I wanted to take a quick second to warn everyone about russel stainless steel brakelines. I had installed them about 6 months ago on my craptacular 92 dx with the hopes of becoming a formula one driver after the install. In all seriousness, what happend was on March 24th a wonderful old man in an Element (ironically) stopped short, and even though I had left plenty of room I rear ended him.

The cause...the good ole russels I had installed failed me...hard. The passenger side line blew. Upon further inspection I realized that the problem was they made the lines so long that where they bolt up wore out.

Dont buy them, just dont do it, I don't want this to happen to you!! Unless you want to drive around in a 92 civic with no front bumper, driverside fender, headlight and corner light, + smashed hood. Ricer Delux, consider yourself warned.

OMG!

I had a fiasco with the same lines on my teg!!!

Tho thankfully I discovered the leak before I put them on the road. I noticed they leaked when I put the fluid through them the first time. There total pieces of shit and a danger to the driver and others.

I cant believe I wasted money on those pieces of shit.

Yeah I would say they suck balls...No one got hurt and there was no signs of leaks before hand. My car got smashed pretty well. I thought about going after russel's but that takes too much time and too much money for a good laywer. So screw it, ill keep driving around in my car with a missing fender, head and corner lights and no front bumper.

Hell people have asked what happend and I say "well with all these kids putting on those disgusting body kits, I thought I would do the opposite. Oh the smashed hood....more aerodynamic...thanks.

But yeah don't by those lines ever!!!

Do you have a pic of the blown line?

Do your russell lines have the rubber boot on them where the line connects to the fitting? The boot helps relieve stress. Also does it have the protective coating on it to keep dirt out of the braid?

I went with technafit when I did mine. You can see the black boot in this pic.

Kommon,

No pic, I only go on SH during work so I don't have time to mess with photos and such, maybe one day ill stay later and put it up. Read below, I describe where the line broke...

Yep I made sure when I ordered them that they had those two things, the boot and the protective covering...didn't matter though, the part that bolts two the arm that goes to the upper control arm (2 bolts) is where it broke....just way to long so the bend there wasn't optimal, well there was no other choice they only bolt in that one way...

Total garbage...

Kommon, where the ones you installed long as well?

Its seems like a company thing, because my buddy bought uncoated ss lines from earls for his 4runner and they have the same problem....to long.

I tried to warn him about the lack of coating but he is stubborn and doesn't want to listen...he can have fun with those.

Again Russels ss lines ftmfl

Yeah man I drive a 92 civic, its not really worth getting into it for that car. Although I would like to find the engineer that designed these f'ing things so long, he deserves a punch in his balls.
