yet another idle problem, but I have tried alot

I have a 89 dx. The idle is horrible. It starts high (1500-2000) lowers a bit then goes up and down. As the motor gets to op. temp it get worse. The throttle body is clean, I cleand the eacv, Adjusted throttle linkage, etc... I'm going to clean the pcv and get new homemade grounds for battery and valve cover, well that help. Also I checked the cap and rotor and they don't look good, so i'm thinking it's that and another thing when you check the coil do you test it with a voltmeter with the negitive cable connected and/or with the ignition in the on position (not started)? o yeah i'm thinking of retarding the timing and seeing what happens?

the idle is supposed to start out high when it is cold or very first started up...when you say eacv I think you mean IACV, I think it may be a good idea to check that the map sensor is ok and that there are no vacuum leaks too.

I'm not throwing any codes, my compression is like about 195-215 or so across the block, with if i'm correct is a little high meaning carbon deposits? I was thinking of maybe using sea foam or automatic tranny fluid to clean that sometime, but i'm guessing compression is ok? I'll check the map and for vacuum leaks.

i just blew my head gasket on my D16Y8 and if the idle is the only thing that is wrong with car then it shouldn't be that. The car would run fine and idle weird. With blown head gasket (in my case atleast) the car ran like ass and would idle about normal pace for few seconds then jump really low.

First time blow'n head gasket so don't know if that is how it always is but I wouldn't assume its that serious.

It runs good, but the idle is extremely bad. I'm using a throttle body gasket that's bored bigger than the dx throttle body, would that cause a bad idle?

i would clean your IACV and clean the screens out cause most idle problems i see the IACV is usually the cause

I cleaned the ecav. I took it off and sprayed carb cleaner in it, is there a screen in obd-0 ecav cause mine didn't have one? I believe it's ecav on obd-0.

I put in a used ecav from a junkyard( I cleaned it) with, who know how many miles on it. I also put stp fuel injector cleaner in it and it still idle's horrible. when you put the butterfly valve in, it has to be turned twice to get the tps to face the engine. I had to move the tps to seat right. I think it might have to turn the valve back a half turn? I'm thinking of buying a bunch of vaccum hose and replace all the hose's? I need help bad.

First thing you ever check for when a car idles funny like that is vaccuum hoses. That's most likely what it is, seeing as you aren't throwing any codes.

Check the voltage on your TPS.
Check vaccuum hoses for leaks
Air could be bypassing the blade of your TB, too.

i'll check the vaccum hose's. when checking the tps voltage, do you test the actual tps prongs or the connector on the wiring harness?
