its basically converting your high beam bulbs to fit your low beam by cutting those to plastic lines heres a more informative link about this http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/more_light.htm

I was thinking of trying this project on my car. Is it really brighter? How many percent brighter would you say that it is? Thanks for any input on this.

This isn't some 'super' mod that's going to give you 'the HID look'. But, for $12 ea. cdn. the Sylvania Cool Blue's aren't bad at all. Yes, the light output is noticeably greater, but not spectacular (like some may report). It's only 10 more watts (and 700 more lumens). I used the Cool Blues, but a lot of people are using the SilverStars (which aren't available in Canada). Supposedly those are 'better'. In any case, I wouldn't go spending anything over the afore mentioned amount.

I've asked this question as well. My friend has a Beretta which also takes the 9004/9005 lights. Basically, if it's not a projector beam housing, it's not going to work. You're just going to blind people. No, you can't 'lower the headlights'. We're talking about placing a high beam bulb in the low beam housing.

I've heard of the following to remove the plastic pieces:

nail clippers
dremel tool
soldering iron/file
vise/hammer/chisel (my method of choice)

I'm sure there's others. And yes, I'd recommend this 'mod'.

I did this mod a few weeks ago. I went for a drive and felt as if I was blinding people. It's not bad on a flat road, but when your car is going up an inclined surface it looks as if the person may get hit with the high beam. I switched back to my normal setup until I can verify it's not really blinding people. I didn't have anyone flash at me though, but I only drove around for around 2 hours.

i've had the 9005 conversion in for 2 weeks now.
Not one person has flashed their brights at me.
I put in cool blues. Their really a lot brighter, especially when u look at the light output, since your stock bulbs only put out 1000 lumens, while the 9005 cool blues put out 1700 lumens.

They look like a super clear white color, and I definately recommend this DIY project. Took me 3 minutes a bulb to do, and well worth it.

i have the silverstars they don't blind anyone because of the projection lights. if you do it on a car that doesn't have projection people will flash you.
