91 Octane or 87 Octane????

Which gas does everyone use in there GSR? As far as octane level? I was reading the owners manual and read that you are supposed to run 91 octane but does it really matter? Anyone know???

i run 91 in my ls/vtec. according to ultramagnetical, the preferred octane is 91, but you can run 89 or 87 as long as you don't gun it, or else bad things will happen. i say just stick to 91 even with daily driving unless you like to hear your motor making ticking noises.

It's recommended 91 for a reason. Use it. You can "get away" with 87 but why would you? Just like you could probably "get away" with not changing your oil every 3-4k. Why skimp? Is it really gonna break the bank to pay 10% more for premium?

Yeah, I just run 93 all the time. So, is 91 considered premium? Here 93 is premium and 91 is midgrade..... but in Cali 91 is as high as it goes (at the everyday station).

it says "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" on the gauges and inside the gas door for a reason.

in CT
87 - reg
89 - mid
91 - premium
93 - super premium

You run the 91+ Octane for a reason, that would be detonation which can occur at any time considering that the cars parameters in the ECU are constantly changing and comparing values sent to the ECU by sensors. Octane is what prevents detonation or else we'd just be running straight Heptane because straight Heptane ignites very easily the Octane which is added is to prevent detonation which can cause catastrophic engine damage. Run what the manufacturer suggests and nothing less.
