93 gs-r sc and hondata

hello I was woundering your opinions on superchargers and engine management? In the passed I did the turbo thing with my 89 civic It had a b16a and zdyne gold it was a tuners worst nightmare it ended up being low boost high compression good for the street I have since sold this car and have a 93 gs-r with a b17a It has taken me alittle time and money to restore the supention steering and wiring to an exceptable point to where I would want to do any performance upgrades I have owned the car for 3 years and have always put synthetic oil in it I have put 60,000 miles on it totaling 192,000. ya gettin up there the compression is 185psi acrossed the top and has no leaks and burns no oil my questions are, I have decided on the vortech sc and was woundering what engine management I should use hondata seems to be what the tuners are using in my area I just don't know what version s100,s200 and what an exceptable injector size would be? should I have the engine punched out to 83mm this being the largest safe size on stock sleves before I get the sc or should I run the stock until she blows? one more question does anyone know of a good cable to hydro conversion kit as my friend has a type R tranny with the 4.78 final drive he said he would give me a good deal on what is the use for a good deal if I can't get it to work right :bh this would be the way to go as this tranny is one of the strongest I put 4 trannys in my civic and the same thing would happen third gear syncro would always go these where the jdm s1 trannies which are basicly the same as a 92-93 gs-r I don't want to go through this headache again :eek thanks for the info, feed back, or criticizum. and ya my gs-r is a real one oh ya it is one of around 1500 painted the teal color

It has taken me a little time and money to restore the suspention, steering and wiring to an acceptable point where I would feel comfortable adding performance upgrades. I have pwn3d the car for 3 years and have always used synthetic oil. I have put 60,000 miles on the teg, for a total of 192,000. The compression tested 185psi across the board with no burns or oil leaks. I have decided on the vortech sc and was wondering what engine management I should use. Hondata seems to be what the tuners are using in my area, but I just don't know what version to use (s100,s200), or what would be an acceptable injector size. Should I have the engine bored to 83mm (this being the largest safe size on stock sleves) before I get the sc or should I wait until she blows? Also, does anyone know of a good cable to hydraulic conversion kit? My friend has a type R tranny with the 4.78 final drive he said he would give me a good deal, but what use is a good deal if I can't get it to work right? :bh This seems like it would be the way to go, as I have put 4 trannys in my Civic and this is one of the strongest. But as always, the third gear syncro would always go. These were the jdm S1 trannies which are basicly the same as the YS1 from the 92-93 GS-R. I don't want to go through this headache again :eek. Thanks for the info, feedback, or criticism. Yes, my GS-R is a real one. It is one of around 1500 with teal paint.
I don't think you should bore that B17. It will lose some throttle response.

Please elaborate on the throttle response and boring.

You can go 85mm. If you are gonna do anything, might as well go all the way instead of half ass it (no offense). Getting the VSC for the GSR is hard stuff. Only know of one person on the G2 baord that has done it. He has also done the JRSC and it was horible to work.

Great results on the VSC however. Not my best route for FI if you ask me, but everyone spends their money the way it pleases them. The kit was made to fit from the B16 VSC kit.

As for the injector and management setup, you'd have to do some research on your own. As its best that way since you will learn something. I'd start on Hondata's website for the S100 vs S200 and RC's website for injector size for your setup. They've got calculations there.

There is also a cable to hydro (or was it the other way around) kit made. I think it was Hasport. Look them up. Pricey items.

you cannot go 83mm on the stock sleeves. 81.5mm ok, 82mm is pushing it.

I'm not mechanic, but they interviewed an R34 tuner on some show on the speed channel and on the particular car he was showing off, he said it was tuned for throttle response and he kept the stock bore size to contribute to this. When he was dricing it, the speedometer JUMPED (no smooth transition) between 4k and 7k rpms.

when your compression smaller or make a bigger bore you need more air and its going to take longer to full up the cylinder with air cus its bigger but you can help stop that by buying a bigger throtle body and a intakemanifold

Usually when someone goes big on the bore, they are not joking around. That means they are planning or already have proper packaging of parts to compliment the bored engine.

It's about more displacement. So you will need more air to breath better. A good IM and exhaust system is critical. Sometimes the enlarged throttle body will cause a decrease in flow velocity, but is good when going all out.

You will also need a free flowing exhaust system. As already mentioned, when boring, the person is serious. And by this time, they want a custom exhaust, something aside from the mass produced 60mm cat-back.

Its all about package. If its a TV show that you show, its mostly about advertising and parts being put together just because. Lastly, some of the poor throttle response can be tuned out with proper fuel tuning.
