On my 98 LS it seems that the rear latch on the hatchback isn't locking properly. Sometimes when I hit a bump I can hear the hatchback bouce and make a pretty loud thud noise. Real annoying! Anyone else have this kind of problem with theirs?
I believe on the 98-01 models you have to lock it by key or locking your doors, because my cousin has a 99' GSR and they don't come with the trunk opener (right by the door sill on the driver) unlike the 94-97.
Try adjusting the rubber stoppers that are on the trunk near the edges. There should be one on each side and you can turn them to adjust them. Make they are not turned out far enough, thus causing the noise you hear from the hatch. Try fiddling with them until there's no more noise. Let us know how it goes.

I turned them in as far as possible and it's still making the noise. Funny thing is that when I was driving around testing it out I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign, but the popo was cool and let me go. I'll adjust it a little more tomorrow and see what's up.

No, you need to turn them OUT because then it will make contact with the surface of the trunk. If you turn them in as far as possible, you are just going to make the gap between the rubber stoppers and the trunk further apart.
Mods: Flowmaster exhaust, AEM cold air intake, flashed ECU for 8200 RPM shifts
I have this same problem with my dads 1990 hatch. We unded up putting those little circle tabs, that you can put on the bottom of chairs to keep them from scraping hardwood on the rubber stops that are already on there, it closes a little tighter, and completely stops any noise.
