Act Clutch
I'm about to get my car back today (in a couple of hours). I got an ACT kit put in. I miss my baby, haven't seen her for 2 days. Funny cause I can go weeks without seeing my girlfriend and not even mind it.
I have a 98 gs-r. Injen CAI, DC Header, 2.25" piping and a spp muffler.
Kind of a pointless thread. :

The only thing that I can say is that make sure you break it in properly. You don't want to burn any spots on your flywheel...I was not advised to do this by the mechanic that installed mine and it has been a very frustrating year.

Shit i have an ACT Stage 3 with a heavy duty pressure plate. As far as the break in goes my mechanic just told me to go redline it down the street as soon as i got it put it. He has been doin this stuff for years and i haven't had any problems.

Just my .02
and this is why you should never trust the internet for useful facts....
please, for heaven's sake, break in the clutch properly for the first 500-600 miles. Do not thump it right away like this guy and stay away from his mechanic.....unless you like replacing the clutch early. You want everything to seat: the plate, the disc , and the flywheel without excessive heat to glaze everything up.....
BTW ACT prides itself on NOT having stages like Clutchmasters. You can mix and match their plates and discs to suit your tastes and needs.
You can use an Xtreme plate with a street sprung disc. You aren't obligated to use the Heavy Duty plate or a 6 puck if it doesn't suit your needs. There is no pre arranged set or stages with fixed combinations. There is no such thing as a "stage 3" ACT clutch...CM maybe...not ACT....
Don't dump your clutch at 6000, don't try to chirp your tires, keep your shifts around 3500 - 4000 for about 500 miles, basicly drive like a normal sane human being for about 3 weeks, depending how much you drive. Just take it easy, you probably just spent around $300 bones + the cost of the parts, it would suck to have wasted that money...trust me, I did not break in my clutch properly.
The idea behind breaking in your clutch is very similar to breaking in a new set of pads and rotors. Like Tuan said, besides seating the parts correctly, you are also developing a glaze on your flywheel, you want that glaze to be consistent. When you dump you clutch you can "burn" a spot on your flywheel, making it extra sticky in that one spot. This can manifest itself in clutch chatter and an inconsistent pain-in-the-ass feeling clutch.

Thanks! I appreciate the explanation.
I like "driving like a sane human being"
I will be patient...I will have to wait to see how the new clutch handles the 5000 RPM launch
