im thinking about getting an aem cold air intake system for a 92 integra gsr and i was just woundering there is an optional bypass valve that you can get with it is that worth getting and if so how do you put it on (one of my friends said that you had to cut the intake in half then put it in that) but that sounds like it would mess the intake up if you have any experience with putting one of these in can you tell me how to do it and if you have to cut the intake or just if you know wat i am talking about tell me wat i sould do thanx

it's worth it if it rains a lot in your place and if you plan to drive it around in the rain a lot. it will hurt performance a little bit, but as far as the intake goes, it won't hurt it at all. just make sure you cut straight, shave any small particles, then put the bypass valve on. btw, you could have searched. this topic's been covered before. oh and btw, integra questions belong in the integra forum.
edit: nvm dude it is in the integra forum. lol sorry, i coulda sworn i was in OT.

I have one on my car and am glad I do. My inner fender was not on the car when i bought it, so water will splash all over the filter. If it rains alot in your area, i would get one.... unless you like hydrolocking your engine. You may want to look into the Comptech Ice Box. They are suppose to perform as well as the AEM CAI, but not have the problem of hydrolocking.
PS- You do have to cut your intake to pu the bypass in, but it is easy.
uh he has a 92gsr. comptech icebox wont work. dude i have a no name intake on my 92gsr with no bypass valve and i drive her in the rain all the time. a lot of the plastic down there in that spot is gone too so i know the filter is gettin wet but so far its been 4 years with no problems. i think the bypass valve is for piece of mind really but it ONLY works if the filter is submerged in water, otherwise it doesnt do squat.

so do i need one or not i live in maryland i guess it rain alot but it i get it were sould i cut the intake at and how hard r they to put on
it's totally up to you. it's easier to not get it, but more chance of damage. harder to install if you do get it, but less chance of damage. it all rests on what you're willing to sacrifice.
On my previous 00' civic I ran a CAI and had the problem with the pipe rubbing against the hole that it runs through and actually cutting into the pipe after sometime. This time around on the Integra I just put a short ram on it, really happy with it so far
I still stick to my strategy here in rainy Seattle:
March-Oct. - autocross season - AEM CAI, no bypass
Oct.-March - raining/cold/shitty anyway - stock tube with K&N filter and no resonators
No compromises and little risk. The stock intake makes me lose a lot of midrange but the top end is still quite good, nearly the same. If you don't get the K&N filter it will cost you nothing also. It takes 5-10 minutes to switch over... not bad. Better than losing most of the CAI's gains with that bypass valve. I ordered one but then thought better of it before the install and sold it.

so ur saying just leave it the way it is and nothing will happen unless it is submerged under water wat is going to happen if water gets into the filter nothing?
without the bypass ... when you submerge your filter in water, its like sticking a straw in a can of pop and suck up the water straight to your motor, all the bypass does is allow the motor to suck in air and bypass the filter once the filter is submerged since there is less resistance through the bypass.
Im just curious, how big is the bypass valve. becuase i have a 2 peice intake wouldnt it be easier for me to just put it inbetween the 2 peices where the shortram would be? But if its too big i might have problems with it betting too long and not fitting. Im guessing thats why u make a cut, becuase you could always put it at the beginning of the intake and not make a cut also.
