AEM short ram intake?? comments?
sup guys.. just wondering if anyone's running the aem short ram.. i know i know.. i should've ordered the cold air.. well.. i live in hawaii and the rain here gets harsh.. to the point where i wouldn't even trust that bypass valve.. in any case anyone got any comments on em? it'll be teamed up with dc headers and a greddy sp exhaust (on a gs-r).. thanks in advance!
You will get WAY more gains when the VTEC turns on, BUT that's w/ the Cold Air. I'm pretty sure I read the article Sport Compact had on the By-pass valve when it came out. You may be able to put more than 1 on. If I understand the mechanics that they explained right. They had an NSX testing it w/ a downpipe going directly a fish tank full of water. If they didn't trust the valve not to fail they wouldn't have used an NSX as a test car....Feel me?

You will not experience tha same gains as with their CAI, BUT your throttle response will be quicker and your top end response will not bog. I have yet to see any circuit racers in Japan use Any AEM product or their CAI and most of them use any sort of short ram or ITB's.
The two different styled intakes, provide different gains End of story. All of the gains that the AEM/CAI produces is Not totally related to Cold Air but, also the tuning of the tube length promoting a resonance wave effect.
If you didn't feel comfortable with the "patch" that AEM created, then thats Your choice. And you shouldn't be attacked for your choice or decision so don't appologize for Anything.
The AEM hydrolock valve works based on physics: That water is heavier than air. Meaning that the valve flaps will open when the filter end is submerged. So it does and will work But, there also have been many people report that the gen 1 valves would fall apart and either the foam or a piece of flap would break off and get lodged in the TB, Not Good!
If you were concerend about hydrolock, and rightfully so, The Comptech "icebox" supplies equal gains as compared to the AEM/CAI And it can't hydrolock unless the nose of your car is submerged.
doesnt INJEN make short rams with an optional cold air extension u can put on but i think it cost extra money but hey u can put it on when it aint rainin or take it off when it is

By the K&N filter re-charge kit and clean your filter about every 10k. MAke sure its always oiled. The foam filters- as in like the "sponge" type filters??? If so, they are bad. Dust particles penetrate the filter and eventually make their way. As for the short ram, i had that at once- it was nice. Didnt really give much power though. You could alwayd make it into a cold-air later on one day when your bored. I did this with some parts i bought a home depot. By the way- did that IDRC race happen yet in Honolulu??

theres gotta be more.. How come this is always so hard when anybody asks.. (most work done by Sav Leone)
well you should build a metal box around the short air too keep out the heat from the engine. cause with out all you are doing is sucking in hot air from your engine and you dont want that. a cooler engine is a stronger engine. so you need to make a heat sheld for the intake. just my .02 cents

Theres Nothing wrong with a Foam filter as long as they are maintained properly IE "washed, dried, oiled and done at the proper interval."
Foam flows better than paper and cloth.
It's in how it is maintained that can make it a bad thing.
but, isn't how it is with just about anything?
I love the quotes from K&N ads of years past that actually stated that their filter cleaned the filter charge better when dirty as opposed to when it was clean...:
Ahh well, I never understood that logic... dirty oil helping to filter... OF course it will probably cling more particles,,, but, that doesn Not equal higher flow if everything is all clogged up.
