The computer adjusts the A/F ratio many times a second, it's not very easy to tune with this thing... I think the best way to spot trouble is if the gauge tends to display a lean condition all or most of the time.

Where did you ground your gauge...if the readings are diffrent when the lights are on it could be a ground problem.

Plus, A/F gauuges get correct reading only at WOT

my a/f meter gives me real good readings
i tap the o2 senor from the harness nside the engine bay near the fuse box under the hood and i grounded the guage to medal plate under the steering wheel, its hindin behind the change box. for pwr i taped it off a 20fuse, thats nside of the car. i have 2 double check 2 c where its getting its pwr, thats just incase some1 here wants 2 know. but i get better readings at night because its not as hot as it is during the day.

in reality the a/f gauge isn't meant for tuning unless you are using wideband, the a/f gauge is a precautionary tool. not meant to be accurate enough for tuning

This is true and you should only be using it for WOT to see if you are lean for turbo or NOS or whatever your doing.

That is what's supposed to happen. Also you can tell about how rich/lean/stoich you are by averaging in your head where the middle of the LED bounce is. Like if it stays mostly towards the lean side then you are leaner than richer. This sounds stupid but unless you have or have seen a A/F gauge you won't understand the question. The ECU is constantly compensating for the changing conditions of the engine hence the averaging it does to maintain a stoich, but slightly lean under cruising conditions, fuel mixture. Another reason for your differences in night time and day time is that you probably have your headlights and other lighting equipment on at night and not during the day giving you a different load on your engine and giving you a different set of factors for the ECU to compensate for. Hope this rambling of mine helps somehow. Peace!
