Hey, I'm new to the forum but this seems to be a good place to ask my questions about autocross and ways i can impove my performance for it.
First my car! I have a bone stock 97 integra LS, the only thing not factory is the stereo, and even then all i have changed is the deck. So if i could get some tips on either cheap (~$50 or less) or free ways to make my car perform better that would be great. i do plan on upgrading it more later, but right now i dont want to spend a lot.
Second, Autocrossing! I'm really excited about it, i have been driving for a few years and have been trying to find a safe and fun way to race. Autocross seems to be it! April 29th is the first event in my area that i know of (phoenix, az) so i was hoping someon could give me some driving tips.

welcome! as far as autocrossing, we have a forum section directly for that, ask there and they should supply you with some tips.
for those free ways to gain some performance, there is a guy on here (sorry, i forgot his sn) it has 139 cheap or free ways to gain performance. off the top of my head i could think...remove top of air filter box, reset ecu, add washers to the hood hinges and remove the weatherstripping on the back of the hood. weight reduction works really well, there is a diy rear trunk brace you can do...hmm, check your tire pressures for autox. but the thing that will help you the most is driver skill, learn what lines to take, how to use the different ways to use the pedals, as in left foot brake, double clutch, ect.
but most importantly, have fun!

Before you do any mods, read the rules for what's permitted in the stock class for auto-x. It's best to learn as a novice in a stock car so you can get a feel for how to drive the car and how it behaves, THEN figure out what class you want to be in and what mods you will need to get your car competitive in that class. Also once you've raced your car a few times and know how it feels on the limit, the mods you decide to do will be better-guided and also more satisfying!
"DXE" on here is in your area and just started autocrossing, you guys should meet up.

a well-maintained car is a performing car. my friends 96 accord ex has been fed Mobil 1 synthetic oil since the day it rolled off the lot, and it performs like it did that very day. add another 50 bucks to your limit and get an intake. your car will sound better and give it a little hp. but what do i know...i'm new too

That will bump him out of stock class. He can run Novice class for his first year, but after that he's gonna be out of Stock, which will suck when you're relatively new and the only mod you have is an intake. He could put the stock intake back on next year when he's out of Novice though, I suppose.
