autolock..?

i've used the "search" button already but found nothing too specific about how it works... i'm thinking of getting the "autolock" and want to know, does anyone here use it or knows someone who does? a good investment?? i'm thinking there's no way they can go anywhere with my car or tow it because the parking at my dorm is the sidewalk and i always have a car parking in front and behind my car.

1st get used to it right NOW that if a thief wants your car REGARDLESS of what type or theft prevention device or devices you have, they will take it, and YES they TOW if they really want it. If they can't tow it they may just rip it all open and tear out whatever they like.

(edit) AS PER AUTOLOCKS OFFICIAL SITE:

"BRAKE vs. STEERING WHEEL
AutoLock PRO uses the brake pedal or clutch pedal arm because their thick solid steel constuction makes them one of the strongest parts of your vehicle and virtually impossible to cut.

Steering wheel locks are typically bars that attach to the steering wheel & prevent it from turning. Most steering wheels are made of thin metal & foam because they are designed to bend out of the driver's way in an accident. A car thief can easily cut the steering wheel using a bolt cutter or hacksaw, remove the steering wheel lock & steal the vehicle."

That said, the autolock is a good visual deterrent, it may slow a good thief from his usual 2-4 second take to about 10 seconds but, hey thats 10 seconds that is harder for him to do what he wants.

After the autolock, you may want to install at least 2 fuel cutoff switches and a decent LOUD alarm with a pager.

The only Real protection that I have heard more than once being successful is LOJACK. If it is available and in use in RI then it is worth it. I know a few people that have them and 4 out of 5 got their cars back. I know for certain that it is in use in NY, NJ and Boston,,, but, I'm not sure about where else in the country it is active or available.

Some people will go so far as to boot their cars with those parking violation boots but, remember that any tow truck operator can pull a car out of just about any parking space and even with 4 flat tires so the boot is kind of just visual as well.

You are trying to prevent the average street punk or the crime of chance, Not a professional that knows what he is doing and will take what he wants.

BTW I went to school in Providence and I know very well how the crime was almost 15 years ago, I have seen it get cleaned up since but, I know that thieves are all over that city and the corruption is still there.

I personally strongly suggest NOT bringing your car there and leaving it on any open street. I had my car broken into and vandalized and it was a POS 76 Chevy Nova...

You can do what you want to protect your car but, remember that it will never be truly safe unless it is home at your house in a garage with a door closed behind it, and even then they could still take it.

Good luck,

A.

I would get it. You can't shift with it. It would help your car from not getting stolen.

The autolock locks from the clutch or gas pedal to the steering wheel so neither may be moved.

That's not what the autolock does. It doesn't lock anything to anything else; it prevents the brake or clutch from being depressed so you can't start the car or shift into gear.

An average thief will be able to start the car through by-passing the clutch-start lockout, but shifting into gear is more difficult. The only way they can steal your car is by removing the autolock or towing your car.

I have one...kinda heavy...and when you put in on your clutch make sure you push down on the bottom part of the autolock with your foot while you pull the handle hard with your hands....that way it will stand straight. Hard and heavy to put on at first but you get used it. After a while takes like 2 seconds to put it on and 2 seconds to take it off. Fits perfecty in the front bottom of the driver's seat..... I think it's worth it!!!!

i just bought one today since i started working at this ghetto high school as an intern. i didn't plan to buy it but when i went to pepboys it said on the package you have a 1 year 5000 dollar guarantee if it is stolen, that is, if you never see it again. 40 bucks isn't too much.
