b16 or gsr tranny?

Ok, heres the deal,

I have a choice to either get a b16 tranny or a gsr one (hydro). Right now I have an all motor setup. So should I get the b16 tranny and what kind of difference will that make? Also, are the b16 SIR2 hydro trannies the same as the b16a2 civic si 99-01 tranny?

Last thing. I plan to buy a used one. I will be looking for one soon. Any suggestions on what I should check out on the tranny itself like testing out the shaft or something? And how does a SIR2 b16 tranny with 35k miles for $500 sound? Thanks

They have different gearings. The B16 has the ITR gearings w/o the ITR LSD. If given the choice, I would go for the B16 tranny.

I agree. Personally I'd try to find a good ITR tranny because the LSD would be very nice to have, but $500 for a 35k-mile tranny (as long as it's in good cond. or at least comes with a warranty) is a good deal. There are hardly any ITR trannies for under $1k.

If the synchros are going bad in a GSR tranny, should I go out and get a 99-00 civic Si tranny(since it has an lsd?)

The 99-00 Si tranny is the same as the ITR tranny but withOUT the LSD. And yes, you should. Just make sure you don't get a Canadian Si tranny, since it would be the same as an EX one here. Don't be fooled!

I always thought the 99-00 Si had an lsd, it sure as hell acted like it... Was there anything different in the Si tranny than the GSR tranny because under hard shifting the Si never slipped, but my GSR will burn out if I shift hard. The Si just shifted like a dream from first to second, the GSR felt more like a standard trans.

First of all the gear ratios are totally different...and the lag you would feel on a gs-r tranny is because it has the same gear ratios as the LS

Gear Ratio differences

I didn't say it wasn't smooth, and if I did, I didn't meant it as a normal shift. I'm saying from first to second, when I shift hard, the wheels spin a little in the gsr, but they didn't spin in the si (god I love that trans), so is it cheaper to get an si trans and throw in the lsd or get a type r trans and not worry about it??

The GS-R's 1st and 2nd are the same as an LS but with a slightly (2-3%) shorter final drive. The Type R tranny has even shorter gearing than the GS-R tranny, with the same final drive in the US, and also with an LSD. The Si tranny is exactly the same as the Type R tranny but no LSD, unless of course someone installed a Type R LSD on an Si tranny.

Maybe the GS-R tranny you drove was in less-than-great condition? Cuz Integra trannies shift very nicely, and the mags have always said that they're some of the very best-shifting transmissions out there, they should know. Although I must say the shift feel and action isn't as good as an S2000's, oooohhh so short, so solid, so smooth....
