so i have a 98 teg ls, im thinking about getting a GSR motor for it for the added horses. ive been wondering though, are the blocks the same and its just a different head, intake and thottle body, ect.? if the blocks are identical it may be cheaper to just upgrade these things so i need a little input. thanks

you could go the cheap way and do ls/vtec..that would require about 1200 to do right. that is a b16/b18c1/5 head on a ls block.its not worth the swap IMHO...I/H/E sounds more like what you want..you dont seem enthusiastic about a fast car..sounds like you want some pep..

What kind of power levels are you looking for in the long run? If you're going to keep it mostly stock, that's a lot of time and money to spend on 30hp and 1-4lb/ft. If you want to stick with an N/A route and get 170+whp then that would be the way to go, but if you're looking at just a few more ponies than stock, or turbo then it would be better to just mod the B18B.

im wanting to stay N/A and get the extra horses. so what all is different other than the block and head on the GSR motors?, im thinking if the heads are different then the intake is also.

The entire motor is very different. Heres what you will need for a GSR swap:

B18C1 engine
B18C1 transmission (other b series will work, but I recommend the GSR tranny)
P72 ECU (OBD1 or OBD2, your call)
Clutch (you can use your stock one, but an upgrade is always a good idea, especially since its such a bitch to change)
GSR intake

Thats it. Total cost should be about $2000 if you play your cards right. I paid $1400 for mine. But you can get it all complete from Hmotors for about $2700.

Parts you will need to do an LSVTEC (VTEC head on your B18B block)

B-Series VTEC head (B18C1, B18C5, B16A, B17- all will work) complete with intake manifold, distributor, valve cover, cams, cam gears, valvetrain, etc.
Golden Eagle LSVTEC kit
Head gasket (you can use a thinner gasket for some more power, too)
GSR or B16 tranny (recommended, but not nessecary).
GSR intake (ONLY if you need a B18C1 head)

If you do the LSVTEC with the transmission, it should also cost about $2000. Without the tranny will be around $1200-1400

Again, what power levels are you looking for? "the extra horses" isn't descriptive enough.
