B18c5 vs b18c1

Is there a big difference in the b18c5 and b18c1 if your going to do some internal build ups or is the tranny worth the extra money.

if your going to build the engine not really. The c5 has more aggressive cams, a higher compression ratio, diff valvetrain allowing it to rev slightly higer, and a slight p&p. The difference in the tranny is the LSD and closer gearing.

If you are just gonna tear it apart and swap everything out anyway get the gs-r and do the work on it and youll pay less for that engine.

if u are going to turbo the engine go with the c1...the c5 is more for all motor applications than it would be turbo. ud have to rebuild both motors for turbo anyways but ull pay more for the c5 engine only to build it for boost. all motor wise the c5 would be a wiser choice

If your going to rebuild the whole thing anyways, just by the c1 as the others have stated.

just a question. . .

with a c5, couldn't i just swap the high compression pistons for low compression and put a better head gasket and be ready for a mild turbo build up? wouldn't it be a better and cheaper build up because it would be a hotter cam profile, higher rev- limit and a better tranny, so wouldnt it be cheaper than a c1 overall?

u should rebuild the c1 anyways but the c5 will cost u several thousand more bc its simply that, a c5. since ure going to rebuild it and boost it ure basically going to pay that extra cash for a head that flows more air, its port/polished from honda. the c5 is still a 1.8 vtec and is has wut was stated above. high comp pistons, lighter valves, agressive cams and so forth. that is why the c5 is a great engine for all motor, its wut that engine was bread for if u ask me id take the c1 and have a custom port and polish done for much cheaper.

Those cams are for all-motor performance, not turbo. You'd just be letting more boost escape with all that overlap, that's why they make all-motor and turbo grind cams separately...

Why not save yourself a bunch of money and start with a B18B? You could build that thing up way stronger and more completely with the money saved. With turbo you should be worried more about beefing up the internals to run more boost than how well a head flows. There are over 400+whp LS/turbos with a bone stock head (including cams, TB, IM, no P&P...) out there.
