Brake squeak

I know that even relatively new brakes can let out a high pitched squeak and that this is normal, but yesterday they let out a completely different, louder squeak. The pads are at least half a centimeter in the front, but i think they might be worn in the back. I can't tell. What does it sound like when the brakes are worn and what does it wound like when the balljoint is bad?

you make it sound like the sound only happened once? if that's the case I wouldn't worry about it. I'd take a look at the back brakes to check the pads. It is also possible you have a loose shim causing the squeal. If all else fails, gunk makes a spray you put on the rotor to eliminate squeeks.

it could always be a chatter clip coming loose, or rust on the rotors if it sat for any length of time... i can leave my car parked on the ocean block at work, and by my lunch breaks the brakes squeak for the first few stops from the salt air having its way with them...

Yeah, they make stuff to stop the noise. The stuff Ive heard of you have to take the brakes off and spray the back of the pads. Mine make noise when im backing up in the morning when they are cold. and they even make noise sometimes after they are warmed up. It not loud or constant so I havent done any thing about it yet.

It's doing it on and off as I drive very slowly, usually (but not always) when I apply the brakes. It was worse a couple days ago and I smelled brake pad.
