Car revs by itself???!!!!?!?!?!
Ok, The story is that my head gasket blew out on me the other day. So, I changed the headgasket but i had a 2000 ls head in my house that I planed on swapping on the car. Since i was changing the gasket adn had to take everything off i swapped the heads out also. I was putting radiator fluid in and noticed that the intake manifold gasket was leaking on the left side. Coolant was coming out alot. I also added a new timing belt while I had it apart. Now i went to start the car and it starts and the car revs all by its self. And its really ruff. I have not used a timing light. The throttle cable is lose so i know the gas isnt being pusshed. Can this be from the intake manifold leak or maybe i timed it wrong? Ignition timing? I dont here anything hitting like piston to vavle contact so i assume that i got that right.I thought it might be the intake manifold gasket leaking. Please help i need this car running in a few days.

Yeah that seems like it is the problem i mean i would think that a leak in the gasket would prevent regulation on how much air is going in the car b/c it bypasses the throttle plate.so the car revs. would this be correct?

Well make sure you clean all the old gasket off before you reinstalled the intake manifold. Then just torque your bolts as specified.

There is a certain order that you have to go in when you torque the bolts down for the head. Did you go in that order? I like to torque them about 3/4 of the way to the desired setting in the order to tighten them up, then go back and torque them to the proper setrting in the special order. Another thinbg to check is all the vaccuum hoses. Make sure they are all connected. Also, check the things listed before, such as the IAVC and intake mani gasket.

Ok, Yes to torqued the head down in two steps once at like 21 ft lb and then went back in order and tq it to 61 ft lbs. I finished installing everything and the car cranked and runs smoothe but the car still smokes. At idle not really but when you rev the car it smokes alot. Im sure the head was not messed up. And i know i tq it down right. Could this be a crack in the cylinder? or possibly the intake manifold still leaking. Its not leaking on the outside at all. Do you think it is just on the inside? If it was a cylinder crack would it still smoke the same amount at idle?

What color is the smoke? Blueish = oil, white = water/coolant, and black is usually running rich or lean (cannot remember which one).

Its white like coolant. I'm not sure whats up with it. It didnt through a code and its running smooth ya know the temp guage sits right under half like it should. but there is still smoke.
I just checked the coolant level and it was full still like to the top.

black smoke = rich, it is atomized fuel that goes through unburnt
