Changes to Exhaust

Hello. Am in need of changing cat-back exhaust. Stock is expensive, so why not go aftermarket - so i think. My wife drives this thing and doesn't want it loud. I have read that Greddy SP2 is not bad at highway speeds - anyone know. She uses phone alot when driving - wants to hear. If I spend bucks and it's really noisy I'm dead. What can I do? I'd like to make some improvements to hp cause it seems doggy - a few extra would help. Considering adding SRI later. Also, anyone know why GS-R 4 door exhausts won't fit LS 4-door? I know GSR is vtec, but really why from cat back do they not fit? Can I easily mod with a cut and weld?
Cheers! Dave

My exhaust changes

I should add to my first post that I have bought new single piece header (2.5 inch out) and a cat to go with it(2.5 out). So I am needing some input here. Thoughts appreciated!

How about some 2.5' piping all out with a resonator.Take the resonator off and get the raspy noise we all dread.I am running a 4-1 header with 2' piping with resonator to a Flowmaster 40' series Muff. Its really quiet at cruise speeds and at WOT you can hear it hum but not like the coffee can raspy noise.

I'll revisit the issue once I have my parts for the front end and know exactly what I have for dia. I haven't heard anyone say that the Flowmaster is quiet at running speed. Only heard that maybe Greddy SP2 and Apexi WS2 will achieve that. Also, I saw at Greddy that you need to have papers attesting to the CARB compliance when using aftermarket - can someone fill me in a bit more. Is there a good site to read about this issue? Maybe it's not a deal here in MI cause we don't have smog testing - but we may relocate and I don't want a hassle somewhere else (or even if we just take a road trip.)
Thanks.

I'd say Apexi WS2 for a quiet exhaust. I have the JDM Tanebe medallion exhaust and it's not noisy at all to me anyway. But I have heard the Apexi system is the best.

if i remember correctly, the gsr has a different header, that's why the exhausts are different. also probably the reason you haven't read reviews on flowmasters is it's not that common of a setup and everybody's will be different with a one-off setup. carb stands for california air something something but it's used in other states. check your state's laws. if you run a high flow cat you will pass emissions and if you're wanting something quiet you won't have to worry about the 95 db part.

A little more respect, be a man. It's HER car, I fix it. First time I've owned a small car - tuning is new to me, fixin' em is not. Basically I agree about people on phones. My wife and I travel much - the phone is indispensable, so is bluetooth. We both occupy the passenger seat regularly and make calls from it - it's hard to hear in this car right now and I don't want to have same problem. Ultimately, if it's not quiet enough changing out the catback system to aftermarket - I will put stock on it. BTW, unless your mom beats you or somethin - you'll be happier throughout your life if you figure out how to respect her.
Adios.

You're going to be hard pressed to find a full aftermarket catback that will be quieter than stock. The only way would be to do a custom job yourself and add who knows how many resonators etc.

dude just because somebody made a crack about your old lady getting off the phone doesn't mean that people here don't respect their mothers or women in general. that's quite a leap. compared to other newbies you're getting off with no torture at all.

i have the greddy sp2 exhaust on my teg and love it! it really is quiet comparing it to others. its a bit louder than stock while driving but never have had trouble hearing while on the phone. i dont do it alot, but when i do i can hear fine. but it does change note when the secondaries on my gsr open up, it roars! but i get compliments on it all the time from passengers telling me how quiet and nice it sounds. also the sp2 and ws2 are basiclly the same. just more money for the apexi.

If you are running it with out a resonator its loud as hell but with a resonator its not loud at all at cruising speeds. If only I had a video camera

Gotcha - no worries. I came here for solid info about my car and exhaust - there was NOTHING in the post about that. Weigh in with somethin useful and maybe you can mess with me. Without proving your worth I don't know if I owe or should pay dues. I can take s***, certainly - if you do you better expect I'll dish it back, which I have and now I'm criticized for it. I reserve the right to speak my mind when spoken to. As for women - my comment does not apply to EVERYONE on the list just the one who wants to piss off his mom for no apparent reason. If I don't get the torture rules explain them to me. My apologies if I tortured anyone's feelings!
Cheers! I'll buy you a beer if you're in Traverse some time and you're legal.
