Changing from Auto to Manual - Honda Forum / Acura Forum

My auto transmission is leaking oil and it can't be fix any more. Should i buy a auto tranny or a manual? I really like manual but the mechanic told be that the engine light is gonna come on and will not pass the smog check if i change it to stick. Just want to see if anybody have any suggestions, Thanx.

what a lazy ass mechanic. he's feeding you bs. our shop has done tons of tranny changeovers...including my car.

Will my engine light comes on? How about smog check? Where is your shop at? How much is it if i do it there?

no engine light cuz we get you an MT ecu and MT wire harness. hmm...we've never really did a tranny swap only cuz we usually do it w/ complete motor swaps...no smog problems for anybody i know of...anyways, the whole thing should cost between $2000-2500 including tranny, wire harness, mounts, ecu, clutch, flywheel, lines, labor, etc. (complete h22 swap w/ tranny changeovers run $4200 installed). my shop is in Walnut, Ca.

Even $2000 is quite high....

My cousin bought a del cheap that was auto and got his switch done for $1200CDN

And alot of talon guys around here are doing it for around $1500CDN too.

**EDIT** that price is of 1200 was a DIY, but I think you could get parts yourself fairly cheap and just give to a local shop if you can't DIY

well that price was assuming he's running on a gsr. we can do del sol tranny swaps for like $500.

I also think 2000 is kinda high. It is a LS. Give me a good price, i need to do it within this week.

OEM parts should be cheaper right? OEM would be fine for now.

k...just talked to the store owner....$850-900 for LS tranny conversion out the door.

Ask for Allen....if i'm not there, then talk to David and tell him you were quoted that 850-900. i'm usually there in the late afternoons after 5. we close at 9pm.

What year is the tranny? How many miles on it? do you know?
